Pegasus Wins Hawaii State Etchells Championships and Worlds Qualifier


The Waikiki Yacht Club ran the Hawaii State Etchells Fleet 29 Championships and World Qualifier regatta on Saturday August 11. Philippe Kahn and his team of Bruce Mahoney and Richard Clarke on Pegasus won the regatta with scores of 1, 1, 2, 1, 1, and 3. Philippe and Richard recently competed in the double handed division of Transpac in the Open 50 Pegasus 101 and won the double-handed division sailing for the WYC.

Second place was S/C Dan Doyle’s Etchells sailed by his crew of John Myrdal, Art Musso and Mark Petritz. Third went to Alan Nakanishi and the crew of Etchells 795. V/C Michael Roth placed fourth with Dr. Matt Craig and visiting cruiser as a pick up crew. S/C Steve Thomas’ boat was sailed by the Hawaii Women’s Adams Cup challenger team and placed 5th.

The six races were run with conditions ranging from light winds and small seas to 16 knots, big lump and hard rain. The regatta was sailed right off Magic Island with the top mark close to the G1 Ala Wai entrance buoy.
