Last mix pic

It's been mentioned that there are no pictures of me in this blog, which doesn't seem strange to me at all, but hey, I aim to please, so here's a rare pic matt snapped of me during mixdown on Reid's digital rebel. I loaned matt my sony in Europe and he's turning out to have a decent eye for photography. I've always believed that creativity crosses disciplines and many musicians I know are also visual artists. Actually, many people I know are way more creative than they ever thought, it's just a matter of trying it... When Reid is mostly done with the mix, he asks me to sit down and listen to make sure that everything is where it should be. Usually I sit with a yellow legal pad and make notes about changes I want. Fortunately, most of what Reid does I love anyways, so tweaking is usually short. I've quit being as detail oriented as I used to be, since I've realized that in a couple months, a lot of the minor things that bugged me don't bug me anymore. It's also very easy to overdetail a song and lose the vibe... Reid is an artist with that he does, so I try to leave his vision as intact as possible. This only works if you have the kind of synergy Reid and I have, but that's why we use him. Mostly I just make sure the spirit of the song is intact. However, I do really have to pay attention cause this is the last chance to make any changes and ultimately if I remember something later that I wish I changed, it's no one's fault but my own. This picture is from one of those last listen throughs.

I've been trying to get everything caught up that was put on hold for the s-chick record and it's been busy, but life is good. I had a session with Josh Weaver on Friday, one of the artists we're developing and in about 6 hours, we put down 44 songs. He's amazing. You'll be wanting to get his record when it comes out later this year. I've got 3 records to get up and running right now, but I love all 3 of them.
