Cruelty Free [Cruelty Free Logo]

Every year billions of animals are killed for food, fur, laboratory experiments, or are used and abused for entertainment. There are small things we can do to stop or help reduce this cruelty to animals. Living closely with such sensitive, vulnerable animals, we know how much bunnies love to live, have fun and how smart they are. But we should also realize that they are not the only animals who suffer at the hands of humans. Cows, pigs, chickens, turkeys, etc. have feelings of fear, pain and love - they are cute and loving too!

To help reduce the suffering of these defenseless, voiceless animals, the best thing we can do is to avoid supporting people or companies who profit from their suffering.

  • Please consider eating vegetarian food. Why?

  • Please consider using cruelty free medicines, cleaning products and cosmetics. For example: do not use Premarin (pregnant mare's urine) - foals that result from the pregnancies are sold to slaughter shortly after birth. Use comparable brands of estrogen replacement made from sweet potatoes instead of horse pee.

  • Please consider donating only to cruelty free charities.

  • Please consider not going to places where animals are used for entertainment (circuses, etc.).

  • Please consider alternatives to animal ingredients.

  • Please consider not wearing animal products like leather, wool, silk and fur.

  • Please consider alternatives to trapping "nuisance" animals and dealing with problem birds (pigeons, crows, woodpeckers, etc) in your backyard. Recommended humane procedures to deter raccoons, possums, skunks, groundhogs, birds, snakes, woodpecker, squirrels, etc.

  • Read the book "Wild Neighbors" from the Humane Society of the US to learn effective, permanent ways to deter wild animals from your house and backyard:

[Wild Neighbors] John Hadidian, Guy R. Hodge and John W. Grandy, eds., 1997: Wild Neighbors - The Humane Approach to Living with Wildlife. ISBN 1-55591-309-1. Washington, DC, The Humane Society of the United States, 255 pp. Contact Fulcrum Publishing Co. at (800) 992-2908, (303) 277-1623.

    Write letters to help animals:
