I think I will vote for the fern.

"We've gone from Eisenhower to George W. Bush. We've gone from John Kennedy to Albert Gore. Now if that is evolution, I believe that in about 12 years, we're gonna be voting for plants."

Thanks Exxon...

When asked about investing in renewable energy technologies, an Exxon official said that, apart from ethanol, it's generally not part of the company's plan.
"There are very few that are economical without subsidies," said Henry Hubble, vice president for investor relations, on a conference call. "We don't think it makes sense to invest in it at this point."

World Cup

We are in the "Group of Death".  It was bound to happen.  We have been avoiding that group every draw.  Every time this draw happens you get a group that is just stacked. Well, this year we go stuck in it. Below is a what you might call a briefing on the Cup or just some of my ranting. I am not sure which it is, probably ranting.

This is going to be maybe the best Cup ever. I know most of you are bored by soccer (futbol) or just think it sucks. Just watch some on these games in June of 06, watch the fans, the players, the emotion. The entire world we will be watching, and for a good reason, great sport and the ability to be called the REAL WORLD CHAMPIONS. 500+ million watching for the final, maybe you can be 501 million if you just open you mind to things we (USA) are not he best at. Of course this is not meant for current fans. Rock on.

QUICK FACT on the Group of Death (E)
That difficulty is perhaps best illustrated by the fact that the United States have never beaten any of the three teams they have been drawn with. Furthermore, it is the only group at Germany 2006 with three contenders in the top 12 of the FIFA/Coca-Cola world ranking. (thanks to the official World Cup site)

If we are to advance we need at least 2 wins.  I think we can beat Italy and Ghana.  The Czech's are playing incredible football right now.  The led the European qualifying in goals scored.  They have people with rockets for legs.  See what freedom does for a county?  They make great beer and play good futbol.

Some of the other groups are just average at best.  If we could have made it past group in e in out drawing and of the last three we would have gone to are better than what we got.  I mean look at group G and H.....

G (Group of Shit)
France (players are too old)
Switzerland (they make watches)
South Korea (Getting better but they still eat dogs.  I don't like that.)
Togo (Please tell me where Togo is and name a player or citizen, anyone?)

I still say this team will make some noise.  Hell, if not for a handball by Germany we would have made the semis in '02.  But that is how the game goes.

This USA team is made of guys who know what to do to win.  We don't have many or any world stars.  These guys now what their role is on the field, they are learning not to press to hard in certain situations.  I see the world game in their play over the past several years.  They are learning and have a abundance of talent to pick from after watching the NCAA soccer final four today.

I mean, people know who Landon Donavan is but he left Germany cause he was homesick.  The German media and fans ate this up.  Will this effect him in Germany next summer?  After he got over that case of home sickness he has put together an incredible year.  He lead the Galaxy to the first ever double of winning the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup and the MLs title.  Get this, the MLS is ranked as a decent league in the world. I am not saying we are even close to any European league but they are starting to take notice. Wow, what a difference 10 years and tons of local US talent can do.

Everywhere you look they are playing.  You can't hide from it anymore.  350 million watched the drawing, only 3 million watch the NCAA selection show, and the super bowl doesn't even get that many.

A little commentary from a college football fan...

This is quoted from a college football message board. As you may know I feel the same way as this person does.

More ND questions...

"After last nights game with Stanford where ND barely beat a 5-5 (now 5-6) team full of injuries, I decided to review their season's body of work.

After 11 games, where they were 9-2...
+ They played only 3 bowl eligible teams (yes, only 3 teams with winning records)
+ The 3 bowl eligible teams consist of:
1. Michigan, a win. But in that game Michigan was fairly depleted, with an ailing Hart (yes, the ND defense did knock him out), and I heard (correct me if I am wrong) Michigan was missing a few other key players.
2. USC, a loss. ND gave its best showing of the year nearly pulling the huge upset to the 2 time defending NC and current #1, but it was still a loss. Note that if ND and PSU had both gotten lucky breaks that day, PSU would also be playing for the National Championship this season for sure.
3. BYU, a win. BYU, yes BYU, was the other bowl eligible team. Hardly a powerhouse.

+ Their second loss came to Michigan State. A team that is 5-6 and NOT bowl eligible.

+ Granted, it is hard to punish a team because their opponents had such bad seasons. Especially considering, on paper, the season looked fairly tough to start the season.

+ However, why is it acceptable to REWARD a team for having a poor schedule?

PSU is still picked on for having a patsy non-conference schedule. However, 2 of the 3 "patsies" are bowl eligible, one of which would have been playing for a BCS game if not for blowing it against UConn yesterday. By the way, PSU played 7 bowl eligible teams, beating 6 of them. One of these teams has an outstanding chance of being a BCS team (we won that game).

I know I'm beating a dead horse and really have no point besides stating again how much it annoys me, but man, this annoys me."
