“Mythologies” 2008 (hand tinted C-Type, 40x50 inch)
German/American artist, Esther Teichmann, born in 1980 in
Karlsruhe, Germany, moved to Britain in 1998. Having received
a Masters of Fine Art from the Royal College of Art in July 2005
(listed among Art Review’s top 25 new artists upon graduating), she
continues to live and work in London, lecturing on the BA and MA
photography courses at Brighton University, whilst following her
own practice. Teichmann’s work has been internationally shown
and published, with recent group shows in Los Angeles, Berlin and
Dubrovnik. This summer began with a collaborative show with artist
Spartacus Chetwynd at the Giti Nourbakhsch gallery in Berlin;
The Esthacus Teichwynd Photo, from which the images produced
have been published as portfolios in the publications,
Piktogram, 032C and Rodeo. Summer 2007 concluded with
Teichmann’s first solo show at Man&Eve gallery in London, which
was accompanied by a catalogue containing an essay by art historian
and author, Carol Mavor. The show was reviewed as Time Out’s
exhibition of the week by Helen Sumpter and was featured in
numerous other publications.

Teichmann’s work is included in a group show curated by
Filippo Maggia, In Our World: New Photography from Britain, at
The Modena Civica, Italy, April 2008 ( with an accompanying
publication by Skira).
‘Fragments’, a solo- show of Teichmann’s work will be shown in
Germany at the Karlheinz Meyer Gallery in May 2008 (accompanied
by an essay on the Fragment by the London based artist and writer
Jonathan Miles).
Esther is currently a research by practice student in the
fine art department at the Royal College of Art.
