Fuck You and the Sox - Don
Title: Fuck You and the Sox - Don
Body: So I figured I'd combine a couple things for the week in this blog. First I'll address the title. I went to the Sox-Tigers game on Tuesday night. I just happened to get my GM's tickets for the game as I was about to go home. One of the other managers asked if I wanted to go. Initially I though I was going to be in a skybox, but saw that these were my GM's tickets that I've used a couple times already this year. No biggie. They're great seats. 4th row from the field along the 1st base line. You do need to be wary of foul balls, especially the line drive ones. Here is the view:
As you can see, nice seats. Bummer is that I was by myself as I had gotten them last minute. I tried to get a hold of people that could get to my work or the field quickly, but either they didn't reply/answer or couldn't make it. I ended up tagging along with the other manager, our marketing manager, and one of his friends to "The Cell" who were all sitting in the skybox.
OK, so I get to my seat and just chillin'. I send the above pic to a couple friends just to rub it in. The Detroit friends. At the beginning of the 1st inning, I get a phone call from the other manager letting me know that he got me the hook-up to go to the skybox. Score! So I go meet him and we go to the box. Heck yeah! I've been in the boxes for Sox games at least once a year since we have a manager outing there every year, so it's cool. Nothing fancy. Hot dogs, Italian Sausage and Beef, pot stickers, snackage, beer, soda (or Pop as they call it here - annoying), water, etc. Here is the view from the box:
If you look at the picture very closely, I can kinda point out where I was sitting. Look along the first base line starting with the yellow foul pole. You'll see three people in white shirts (trust me, that's what they are). Where the middle one is standing is just about where my section is.
So watching the game is just cool for me. I really don't care who wins. I play fantasy baseball, and I have a player on each team. On the Sox, I have Bobby Jenks, the relief pitcher. On the Tigers I have Gary Sheffield. Since Jenks already got a save from the day game that day (this was a double header to make up for a game earlier this year), I didn't expect him to come in, so I was really hoping that Sheffield would have a great game.
Well, as it turned out, he didn't. Tigers, though were killing the Sox. 7-0 at one point. But then the Sox posted a come back. Since Sheffield was playing like crap (batting-wise at least), I started wondering if the Sox could pull it out, but not caring unless Jenks would come in. The Sox get the lead and who do I see warming up? Jenks! He comes in and gets the save. I send out a text (one of many from earlier) to Don. The title is his reply. My reply to him is "LOL! Thanks for the title of my blog."
So later in the week. I decided that I still need to see this magician movie. So to prepare I download the 3rd and 4th movie as a refresher figuring that I don't need to watch the first 2. Ends up that I never had seen the 4th one. Dunno how that happened, but it did. I'm not a fanatic about Harry Potter. I enjoy the movies and that's about it. While watching the 3rd one, I felt that I had missed something, so I ended up downloading the other 2. I watched those 2 this morning before going to see the 5th.
I can tell you that I feel that this movie is by far the best of the series I've seen. Now it may be the story itself is better, or the filmaking is better, the script is better, the acting is better, or a combination of any of them. I think part of it is that the story is more mature in the sense that it's not a kiddie flick. The characters are teens - almost adults - and the subject matter is more mature. Also the actors have done their roles for the 5th time, so they are truly becoming the characters.
As far as how it compares to the books? I have no clue. I haven't read any of them. One of my friends told me that this latest movie was the worst of the lot. He says that this was the longest of the books and shortest of the movies. Well, all the movies are about the same length - 2.5hrs. This one may be 15 minutes shorter at the most, so that's not really significant to me. I went with a friend who has read the books and he said it did a good job. It was also the 2nd time he's seen the movie.
So that's my week so far. Baseball and Magic.
L8r,
Marz
P.S. Don, the Sox are still way behind the Tigers in the standings, so don't worry.
