So I'd say I've been sported out the past couple of days. Yesterday I watched sports ALL DAY! It started with all 3 World Cup games. OK, so I took a nap between games 1 and 2 that extended to the 2nd half of #2, but I did watch the 2nd half. After that, I watched both the Cubs and White Sox games. I mostly watched the Cubs game since they were playing the Astros and would flip over to the White Sox since I have 3 Sox players on my Fantasy team. Right after that, I watched the end of the Hockey game. Went to OT and a great finishing goal.

Day 2. Woke up to watch the end of the boring World Cup game between Ecuador and Costa Rica. It was boring in that Ecuador was already up 2-0 or 2 Nil as the Brits say. They scored the 3rd goal as I was getting ready for the day in like minute 90. Then I went to Wrigley Field.

Yep, I finally made my pilgrimage this season. And what better reason than to see those Houston Astros?!

As you can see I made it to batting practice. I've never gone that early before and it was pretty cool. It was a 1:20 game and I had already done a few errands, ate a quick lunch, so why not go really early? So I chilled at the park. I had bought sunscreen before the game in anticipation of being in the sun, but my seat was about 3 rows in the shade....kindof. The pic above is from my seat...nice, eh? In actuality, I did get a burn on my thighs and arms, and little bit on my face. What pissed me off is I kept looking to see if there was any redness and didn't see any till the end of the game :( It's not too bad. It must have been from reflections and not direct sunlight.

So the Astros were down most of the game till the 8th when my boy, Brad Ausmus got a 2 run single to put them ahead for good. I waited till the 9th Inning to mention to the people around me that I have a pretty good track record of going to games where the Astros win. These people were pretty cool. We had a lot of fun.

Anyway, I think I've been to about 15 Cubs-Astros games since I've moved here, and the Astros have only lost like 2 or 3 of those games. I'm not the superstitious type, but one could say that I was a good luck charm for the Astros. For games the Cubs don't play the Astros? I think the Cubs are 0.500. So it's really a product of that the Cubs pretty much suck and the Astros don't ;)

Here's the highlight of the game, thought.....and you thought it was my boys winning:

The gentleman sitting in the black shirt just to the left of the woman in the pink top.....That's Drayton McLane, the owner of the Houston Astros. I took the picture from my seat so I was pretty close. I saw him when I first got to the park, but didn't recognize him immediately. Even though I've seen him on TV from last year, I haven't seen him in person in about 10 years. I used to see him almost every time I went to an Astros game when I lived in Houston. Anyway, I decided to go meet him in the 3rd inning. It was brief, just a hello, glad we got Clemens back, come by the Zone next week when the 'stros play the Sox, etc. The one day I don't bring business cards was today! DOH!

Hopefully he or the players will come in next week when I'm there. I was off Wednesday when Andy Pettitte came in...grrrrr. I'll be out of town the next time they play the Cubs, so this will probably be the only chance I get to see them live.

So I stuck around a bit after the game. I went over to the 3rd base line to see my friend Alan who works security on the field. We chatted for about 10 minutes. Here's the field after the game:

I've got a couple more pics to show during the game:

After the game I walked to BW-3 (it's a long walk, but it was worth not trying to get on the El). The Addison stop was mobbed. There literally was a huge line about 200ft long just to get into the entrance of the stop. And it wasn't moving. the bummer was, it was closed when I got there! Remodeling. Don had told me about this a month or so ago, but I forgot! Another DOH! So I walked around some more, but really wanted BW3. I decided I'd leisurely make my way home via the buses. I waited for at least 20 minutes for a bus before I gave up and braved rush hour on the El (the real reason I was going to take a bus). It wasn't too crowded as it was a quarter till 6, plus I was at the Fullerton stop where more people get off than on the Red Line at that time of day.

I didn't make it to the end of the Dallas-Miami game, but I saw Miami tied it up. For all of you that thought Dallas would sweep :P. Looks a little bit like last year's Finals - a home town series in the first 4 games.

Oh well, I woke up from a long nap, and it's time to go back to bed before work. BTW to explain the Title....For you Cubs fans it should look a bit familiar.....AC026097. It's what's on a sign on a building to the East of the park maintained by the Lakeview Baseball Club. I saw a blog posting that had it as AC026198 from last year, but either the blogger had the numbers wrong, or the sign really did say that and was changed. So, for all of you non-Cubbies it stands for Anno Catuli (though I've seen it inaccurately defined as After Championship) and the number of years since a Division Title, World Series Appearance, and World Series Title. So the important little rib from AA040033 is the middle 00 :) We are in year 0 of the Astros (Anno Astra) last appearance in the World Series. So the AC sign would be correct as posted.

There are two other signs, Eamus Catuli and I never remember the second one because it's kind of harder to see. It meaning is something about Cubs fans being resilient or something like that. Eamus is "let us go" in Latin, so it's Let's Go Cubs. The signs are in the background of the 2nd to last picture above, but you probably can't zoom in enough to read them. Even on my originals, it's hard to read them, and I can't make out the 3rd sign either.

Oh well, I expect that the Cubs sign will read AC036198 next season:) Hopefully mine would be AA000000, but more likely it would read AA050034.

Marz
