ODYSSEY 2005

Who?

Two professional photographers who like to take road trips"just for fun".  To see how we finance  trips like this, check out  our "real" web sites.

Mary Schilpp & Caryn Levy

The plan so far:

We've outfitted the new van for a road trip, (see the mods) and we'll be leaving  Weston on April 12, 2005, in search of adventure.  We don't have a  strict schedule, just a few places to be.

April 15 usually means TAX DAY, but for us it signifies our first destination - Shepardstown, WV, where we'll hook up with Amy, and attend the BECOMING AN OUTDOORS WOMAN weekend, where we will enhance our outdoor skills with a weekend worth of SHOTGUN classes, and "outdoor woman" camaraderie.

While in the eastern panhandle of West Virginia, we'll try the healing waters of Berkeley Springs WV.  There is a spa at the state park, which is unique enough to warrant a visit.

The only other event on our calendar is the National Travel Journalists Association (NATJA) Conference, which takes place May 15-18, 2005 in Santa Fe NM.

We think we'll be traveling west on   US 50 - "THE LONELIEST ROAD", but things can change.

In the beginning

Salesman Ken Hall w/ Mary and the new van.

The search for a good deal took us to Morganton Honda in Morganton, NC, where we dealt with Ken Hall.  What a fabulous dealer!  They sure know how to treat people up there. We rented a car and drove to Morganton NC on January 25, 2005.  The next morning, we arrived at the dealer at just past 9 am, and took delivery of a beautiful 2005 Silver Pearl Honda Odyssey EX-L ( leather) with RES (rear entertainment system) and NAVI (voice activated navigation system).

After picking up our van, we drove to New Orleans,to attend BARKUS 2005, the dog Mardi Gras Parade.  What a hoot. Here are Mary's BARKUS and New Orleans photos.

Here are Caryn's BARKUS photos.

-----

After New Orleans, we headed to Biloxi MS for a trip to the spa at the Beau Rivage hotel.

Next, we drove to Jacksonville, FL, where we worked for Phil Jache and Sports Illustrated at Super bowl XXXIX.

One of my first priorities was to build a sleeping platform in the back of the van, with storage below.  Here is a page that shows what we did.
