The Longest Sleeve I Ever Did KnitFor Christmas I got a good amount in gift
certificates for Hilltop Yarn in Queen Anne. I bought Rowan
yarn and decided to knit "Salina". All well and good. But before I start
this project, I grounded myself to finishing my son's big heart sweater
(hopefully with matching hat and neck warmer), my husband's bulky sweater from
Hollywood Knits, and my dad's scarf that was suppose to be done for
Christmas.
Fine enough. I got Magnus' sweater done, the hat will be a quick garter stitch square, dad's scarf will have to wait but Alan's sweater has had some issues. The pattern is easy enough except I used the size he was before I got pregnant, which was not intentional, even though that is the same size I am now. It's just a little to small for him and just right for me. And it would look great with my dark blue jeans. And it is really boring to knit, meaning there is no way I'm going to rip out to redo all that stockinette. So it's mine. Maybe it's karma, but there seems to be an error with the sleeves. After knitting 12 rows of 2x2 ribbing, you're suppose to knit another 44 rows before increasing twice every 5 rows for 15 rows. Once this is done, there is more knitting, shaping the cap. This makes a really long sleeve: at least 10 inches longer than it's suppose to be. I thought it would be cool to wear the cuffs rolled, but enough is enough. I seem to remember watching an almost famous musician whose sleeves were much too long on her and I thought she looked too much like a little girl trying too hard to shine. So the sleeve will be ripped out. All 142 rows and Salina will have to wait. Dang-it. I liked it better when I fudged before I ripped out. Posted: Fri - January 21, 2005 at 12:21 |
