When you're driving across the state...
with your baby (and your husband's at home
because some rooms need to be painted and that's just hard to do with a baby in
the house) and you need to pee. I now know how it's
done.
Spent the weekend in Liberty Lake
with my family and my sister's in-laws (whom I also consider family). Dad
watched Magnus while mom, Kirsten, Sara and I knitted. I got most of Alan's
scarf done when I ran out of yarn (that I bought on a whim while in Spokane).
Usually I buy too much but this time I was trying to not over do it. Anyway, who
out there knows that Jo Sharp is not currently being distributed in America? I
drove to three different yarn stores in Seattle looking for Silkroad Ultra,
Neptune 714, dye lot 50 to no avail. I would have settled for the same color. At
least I get to look forward to the challenge of finding it in someone else's
stash.
But that was not the only mishap
during Alan's birthday. We've been almost frugal with our money and he has been
working very hard, coming home late in the evening, taking over goo-duties and
always changing that first diaper of the day. So I got him an iPod. He didn't
expect it because, well, when it comes to birthdays I can be a bit cheap. But
what I wanted to do was find a coffee carafe to replace the broken one, wrap the
coffee maker in newspaper and set it on the counter with a bow on it. When he
would open the filter, there would be the gleaming new iPod. Unfortunately, I
drove all over town looking for yarn, and then I drove all over, in-between yarn
stores, looking for a suitable carafe in used stores, and finally in specialty
stores. You see, being cheap is not the same as being heartless. Some of us put
a lot of thought into it.
Needless to
say, he loves the iPod. I also put the scarf on a stitch keeper and wrapped it
up. I've been knitting for Magnus, Karl and Val, as well as someone special (who
will receive the gift in the mail so I don't want to say who), and I wanted to
be sure he knew I was thinking and knitting for him. I'll take some pictures of
my projects and post them soon.
