21st Century Publishing

In the last two decades, computers and the internet have created new opportunities for a writer to reach an audience. Blogs as well as online forums and ezines provides almost instant communication with readers in both specialized niche fields and wide general topics.

The size and scope of that audience has expanded, too, to near global potential. Anywhere in the world, anytime of day or night, anyone with access to the interent can read about any topic imaginable. Millions of books are available for purchase online at sites such as:

And thousands are available at no cost through sites such as:

and many more.

This digital communications phenomena has made dramatic changes in the book industry. No longer is the author at the mercy of distant faceless editors and publishers in order to produce her book or present it to the public. No longer is she forced by vanity publishers to buy and warehouse huge quantities of her work.

Owning nothing more than an idea, pen, some paper, and a USB drive, anyone can write and publish a book.

"To Publish"

The words "to publish" come from the Latin for "to make public." To publish a piece of writing - or any other work for that matter - means nothing more than to distribute it to the public. You can do this with the intent of asking for payment in return (i.e. selling it), or you can simply stand on the street corner and hand your work to passers-by. Either way, your work is published.

The Four Simple Steps

  1. Write Your Book
  2. Create and Save Your Electronic Manuscript
  3. Convert Electronic Manuscript to PDF
  4. Upload PDF to POD Publisher
