Although I've always loved nature and photography, it was only last year that I turned my camera toward my birds and other flora and fauna. I began with one cheap plastic feeder in the yard and a thin pocket guide to birds. Now I have as many as 4 different types of feeders at once and have 3 large field guides, a huge full-color hardback book by the Audubon Society, big binoculars, and literally thousands of digital photos of birds, flowers, butterflies and more, on my hard drive.
Sweeney, the blue parakeet above, died in May - he's pining for the fjords. Mrs. Lovett is still going strong though.
