Welcome to the exciting and ever changing world of online teaching, primary sourcs and school media/technology. It's a world of education that I love and one I am eager to share with you as a speaker, workshop facilitator, writer, and online instructor through the University of Wisconsin-Stout where I teach Teaching with Primary Sources. In 2006 I received a Top Online Educator honor from Walter McKenzie's SurfAquarium. I am also teaching Information Resources for Minnesota State University - Mankato. A favorite part of teaching on-line is getting to know students from throughout the United States and other parts of the world.

I have had the honor of working as a Library of Congress American Memory Fellow and am a member of a Library of Congress Professional Development Committee working with LOC staff to develop TPS Direct, an online PD program for educators. I am eager to share the riches of those exciting collections of primary resources with educators. As an American Memory Fellow my partner and I developed a lesson that focuses on German Immigration to the Upper Midwest.

From 2005 - June 2010 I was the Lead Media Specialist and co-webmaster for Winona Area Public Schools in Winona, Minnesota. Prior to that I was a media specialist at Winona Middle School. Highlights of recent school years included district-wide collection improvements, moving into new media centers at our Senior High School and an elementary school. We also moved into new spaces at an elementary school and expanded media services at our new Area Learning Center. My experiences as a school media specialist, online instructor and working with primary sources are shared in an ongoing column published in Internet @Schools

Other publications include a chapter on staff development in the Educational Media Technology Yearbook 2000 (Libraries Unlimited) and Skills for Life: Information Literacy for Grades 7-12 (co-editor, Linworth 2000). Select Workshops and Speaking links on the right for information about workshop topics and speaking or consulting availability.

I have also taught for Library Media Education Department at Minnesota State University-Mankato
and the College of Education at Winona State University. I am an avid fan of the Winona State University basketball team!

My other "hobbies" include serving as a member of the World Book Publishing Editorial Advisory Board. I have also served on the Linworth Publishing Advisory Board, the Knowledge Quest Editorial Advisory Board and have worked with publishers of professional journals and books.

Another area of professional pride is my involvement in the Minnesota Educational Media Organization. I am active member of MEMO and currently the editor of the MEMORandom newsletter. I have been the State Vice President, State Telecommunications Division chair, and an active member of many committees including the Information Power implementation committee and conference planning committees. Recent involvements include co-chariing a conference program, helping to develop a data gathering tool for Minnesota school media centers, working with the team that developed the Minnesota Standards for Effective Library Media Programs and working with the committee that developed the criteria for the 2002 and 2004 Census of Minnesota Media Programs.
