GMU Hist 100-27, Spring 2007, Prof. Stoneman

Description

Tuesdays and Thursdays, 5:55–7:10 p.m., Science and Technology I 206
Office Hours: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 4:30–5:30 p.m., Robinson B 377B

This course offers an overview of the history of Western civilization from its beginnings into our own lifetimes. It includes the manifold perspectives of social, cultural, gender, economic, political, religious, and military history. It also ranges outside of Europe, as Europeans themselves did. Besides teaching the history of Western civilization, the course emphasizes historical thinking, critical reading, and analytic writing. See the History Department’s introduction to the course for more on its topical scope and the kinds of questions we will be asking.

Like all sections of Hist 100 at George Mason University, the course follows a mixed format of lectures and discussions, as well as activities outside of the classroom. Please explore the rest of this site in order to learn more. Begin with books and requirements; then look at the schedule. Assignments and additional course resources will be posted to WebCT, which has a combined course folder for Hist 100-04 and Hist 100-27
