Campout at Jetty Park, October 10 – 12, 2003

We don’t normally lead off a photo essay with two large nostrils, but for many, the kayaking event was item #1 on Saturday’s agenda. Near the end of the kayak tour, in the Haulover Canal, kayakers who could get close enough were able to pet these endangered mammals.

A ton of thanks to Lori Selby (left) for coordinating this year’s DB campout. And thanks to all who rolled up their sleeves to make the event a huge success.

This is most of the 10:00 a.m. kayak group. The other tour was 8:00 a.m. (Anybody get a group shot?)

This gull knows where the good seats are.

Chess was one of the some dozen or more games offered over the weekend. Some played 10-minute chess, in which players have 10 minutes to achieve a checkmate, or at least make sure their flag does not fall first. DB members are invited to join the DiscoveryBound Chess Players and play in person or online.

What do a pack of cigarettes, one sandal, and an unopened Bud Light all have in common? All are items picked up off the beach by the Sunday morning sunrise hikers. They even found two coconuts (go figure).
