Costa Rica New Year's Week 2006
While the motivation for this 1-week trip to Costa Rica was the Charlie Gómez birthday party, we also visited Caño Negro the wonderful Bosque de Paz.

Our first field trip was to Poas Volcano -- here is its crater lake.
Next we headed north to Caño Negro, a freshwater lake and marshland.
We really roughed it at the Natural Lodge Caño Negro.
We enjoyed a great trip with Ernesto as our guide.
We saw lots of Caiman and over 100 species of birds at Caño Negro.
We loved the scenic beauty of Caño Negro and environs.
Next we headed up to Bosque de Paz, nestled in a verdant valley.
Bosque de Paz is one of the most wonderful places we have ever been.
Hummingbirds are abundant; this is a Green-crowned Brilliant.
Great Currasow; rescued from captivity and reacclimating to the wild.
Bosque de Paz is loaded with tropical flowers.
There are amazing tropical insects here, such as this katydid.
