I thought one of the best ways for you to understand the design process was by lookinnng at a design I did for a customer last year, followed by some images of the finished ring. The customer was charged $200 for the design, and $725 for the ring.

Custom Design and Quote for Ring

3D Rendering Front

This web page shows your design, the way I'll fabricate it, and some 3D views. This is a design similar to the One Ring on my website. In developing the design I kept in mind the idea of this being a storm or weather ring. I used your sigil as the main design for the front of the ring. I suggest Lapis Lazuli as a December Stone (most jewelers use synthetic blue zircon, natural blue zircon being a quite expensive stone). Other December Stones, by Month and astrologically, include Turquoise (inexpensive), Ruby (expensive) and, if the birthdate is within Capricorn black stones like Silver Obsidian, Black Star Sapphire, Black Onyx, or Hematite (most of which are inexpensive).

In looking at the design please bear in mind that the gold is all High Shine 14 kt, with, perhaps, a little texturing in places (i.e the symbols). The silver will be sterling either textured and oxidized or just textured. The ring is estimated to be size 9 1/2. The ring band will be about 12 mm wide at its widest and about 2 mm thick (25.4 mm to an inch). Although the 3D doesn't show it the ring band will be slightly flattened beneath the front (which makes it easier to wear and more stable).

The top or front of the ring is composed of layers as shown below. Each of these layers are cut out of sterling or 14 kt and soldered one to another:

The ring band is composed of two layers. The back is sterling silver, the front, including the lightning bolts and the symbols 14 kt gold. You may be able to add one more symbol, or, if you don't like the tornado, for example, take it away.
I don't engrave but I can do your name by stamping. Engraving the insides of rings requires specialized equipment that most mall jewelers have. There are no lower case stamps avalable but it is possible to use two sizes of letter stamps. This is what the inside of the ring would look like:
As you can see this ring is a major undertaking. The design itself and the 3D drawings took many hours, and the ring will take some time to fabricate. I don't think it will be any easier than the One Ring on my site. I expect it to be more difficult. Certainly the design has taken more time. In addition there is more gold on this ring than on the One Ring.

My estimate for the whole project is $925, out of which you've already paid $200, leaving a balance of $725. This is $100 more than the cost of the One Ring.

Let me know if this is what you were looking for, and what, if any, changes you'd like made.

Thanks,

Mark

That was the design. Here are some images of the completed ring. As you can see, although the 3D illustrations showed the general view it could not captuure the texturing or other, more delicate elements.
That's it. Your rings may be similar to the band of this one, at least as far as the symbol placement are concerned, though, of course, you'd have different symbols. But this should give you an idea of how I go about the design process and what is required. Obviously Jason's ring was gold on silver, had a lightning bolt pattern (he called it a Storm Ring), and is different from yours in a number of other ways. But it should give you the idea.

Thanks,

Mark
