BEVERLY HILLS MAGAZINE LAUNCH

I'm starting to get real busy shooting and I'm having a hard time keeping up with everything on my blog. Last week I went up to Two Rodeo in Beverly Hills to take photographs for Los Angeles Magazine and their launch of their newest addition Beverly Hills Magazine. The launch was a huge success and everyone had a fabulous time. Here are just a few photos from the event.

HITACHI AUTOMOTIVE PRODUCTS - "INVEST IN AMERICA"

Monday afternoon I photographed Hitachi Automotive Products (USA), Inc. Invest in America event and conference at one of their Los Angeles manufacturing facilities for Hitachi. Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger of California and United States Secretary of Commerce, Carlos Gutierrez toured their Los Angeles plant as part of two California companies that were selected and included as part of Invest in America Week, May 5-9, featuring events spanning the United States. Invest in America Week highlights the importance of foreign direct investment (FDI) for U.S. jobs and economic growth through a series of events in 12 states across the country.

Here are a few photographs of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Carlos Gutierrz during their press conference that followed the tour, as well as a few photos of them greeting the Hitachi workers and news media.

HITTING THE PAGES IN LOS ANGELES MAGAZINE AGAIN!

I was a busy little bee working for Los Angeles Magazine in the fall. I have FOUR featured events in February 2008's issue! The first event was the opening of the new Guess store in the Hollywood and Highland shopping center. The next, a trunk show in an amazing Beverly Hills Home for 23rd Street Jewelers featuring jeweler and photographer Monica Rich Kosann. You should definitely check out her beautiful portrait work, her new book The Fine Art of Family and her jewelry line which is all based around her photography. One event I know Becker would have loved was SAAB's Hollywood Poker Showdown held at Paramount Studios where publicists and agents faced off to win a weekend getaway to Las Vegas's Treasure Island hotel and casino. The last event was another jewelry and book signing party for jeweler David Yurman at his Rodeo Drive store and Party Confidential's author Lara Shriftman was there on hand to sign her amazing book that every party girl should not go without!

Chanel Cruise 2007/2008 Runway Show

When I was shopping at South Coast Plaza for the holidays I passed by the Chanel store and saw their 2007/2008 resort line on the racks and a huge screen playing their runway fashion show. I turned to my Mom and said "oh yeah I gotta blog about that". But of course, my mind was full of holiday buzz that it left as quickly as it came in. That is until today, when I was reading one of my favorite fashion blogs The Fashionable Matilda's Diary and there was a post about Chanel's fashion show and clothing line. This time, being at my desk I went straight to work on this post.

A lot of my commercial work I can't blog about, or I have to wait for the publication or advertisement to come out to publish them for personal use. In this case I had to wait for the client, C Magazine, to publish the photos in their magazine. Usually by that time I totally forget about it. So here are the details...finally.

I photographed the Chanel Runway show at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica alongside photographer Mark Leibowitz. Mark was stationed inside the hanger where the runway was and I was stationed just outside the hanger where the models were entering from Chanel's private jets. I must say, Chanel got very creative with their show this year took the term "runway" to a whole new level.

The fashion show began when two of Chanel's private planes pulled up to the hanger.

The view looking into the hanger and the main runway from my post.

The models came right out of the planes!

I was capturing mostly wider angles with the plane in the background while Mark was capturing the closer angles on the runway.

Since it is cruise there were a ton of fun and sporty elements.

One of my favorite layouts.

The one and only Karl Lagerfeld who has been head designer for Chanel since 1983 posing with Lindsay Lohan

There were a ton of A-listers at the event and after party, but here are two of my favorites of the night...Claudia Schiffer (who I have loved since her Guess days) and Eva Mendes.

THE BRIDE & BLOOM ANNIVERSARY PARTY

After I posted images from my work in Los Angeles Magazine the other day I realized I never got around to posting my photographs that were in The Bride & Bloom Magazine's Fall 2007 issue. So here they are, just a little late...

The details: Carol Poon the Editor in Chief of Bride & Bloom asked me if I could photograph their one year anniversary party that was being held at the Cooper Design Space in Los Angeles. The world renowned Preston Bailey was going to be designing the floral decorations and the girls from Details Details & Special Day were coordinating the event so how could I say no! It was a fabulous night with food by Good Gracious and music by Vive Entertainment. I had a blast chatting with all the guests and taking tons of pictures. Earlier in the day I even assisted the awesome Aaron Delesie, who also has a commercial photography background like me, shoot Preston Bailey for the cover of the magazine.

Here is Aaron's cover shot.

Here are my pictures in The Bride & Bloom Magazine:

Here are just a few more detail shots from the night...

LOS ANGELES MAGAZINE

It's been awhile... I have taken a little break from blogging and enjoyed the holidays and some time with my friends and family. I will post some pictures of my adventures soon along with some video editing I am trying out for the first time.

Until then here is some of my photography which is featured in Los Angeles Magazine's January 2008 issue. I do a lot of freelance work for their magazine and website and I always forget to pick up copies and see where it all ends up. My roommate was reading the magazine on a flight and she gave me the heads up on the article and I went to the newsstand today to pick up a copy.

This was a very special and fun assignment for LA Mag. It was their Halloween party hosted at the Santee Village Lofts in Downtown LA benefiting Project Angel Food and American Cinematheque. I got all dressed up as Sandy from Greece and had a spooky time! Everyone was in costumes dancing in the haunted house, checking out local artists work, and munching on some great food. There were tarot card readers, sketch artists, and old school horror movies playing on the walls outside. Check out the layout in the magazine and a few of my favorite shots that didn't make the cut.

The Los Angeles Magazine cover and my article on the right.

Great details of the pumpkin patch.

They were playing old school horror flicks Dracula and Young Frankenstein outside in the courtyard.

Great costumes.

I just love this photo of the guy getting his sketch done in his mask.

There was art work showcased from the Carmichael Gallery.

Wonderful food from Celadon.

The ice cream was a hit from New Zealand Naturals (I did have to grab a cone for myself at the end of the night.)

The Santee Village Lofts were decorated super cool for an amazing party.

"I can see your future..."

DJ Henry Eshelman rocked the haunted house.

Just some weird, but great Halloween shots.

Careful not to drink too much! (Just in case...the person on the right is not real)

LOS ANGELES MOVIE PREMIERE OF EL CANTANTE

Last night I had the pleasure of photographing the red carpet arrivals and after party of the Los Angeles premiere of the movie El Canante staring Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony for my client Rums of Puerto Rico (one of sponsors of the event).

El Cantante, directed and and co-written by Leon Ichaso is the dramatic-biography of Puerto Rican salsa pioneer Hector Lavoe (Marc Anthony), one of the biggest Spanish-language singers in the 1970s. The tale follows Lavoe's passionate relationship with his love Puchi (Jennifer Lopez), and his skyrocket to international fame. But even when he has it all, Lavoe is unable to escape the allure of drugs and his personal pain. Click **here** to see the trailer and get more info about the movie. El Cantante is in theaters on Friday August 3rd...

glacéau®

My friend Corinne is the District Marketing Manager in Southern California for glacéau® smartwater®. Last week they had a conference for their team in Los Angeles and hired me to come along and capture the events during the week. One of their kick off parties included a red carpet entrance complete with celebrity impersonators! Marilyn Monroe and The King made an appearance and it was a blast photographing everyone with them on their branded step and repeat. When we had a moment I had Marilyn and Elvis do a quick little smartwater® ad campaign. I had fun in photoshop glamorizing them up to fit the old school look. What do you think?

Could Marilyn have been a spokeswoman for smartwater®?

How about Elvis quenching his thirst between sets?

GIORGIO ARMANI'S RUNWAY SHOW AND THE OSCARS

This past weekend I headed up to Los Angeles to go behind the scenes with fashion designer Giorgio Armani. I worked alongside French photographer Thibau and boy did we have a great time!

We were hired to be Armani's personal photographers for the weekend and we shadowed him all day Saturday while he was preparing for his Spring/Summer 07 Prive runway show and party, as well as Sunday when he was getting actresses Cate Blanchett and Beyonce all dressed up for the Oscars. It was quite an adventure! Saturday night's fashion show was star studded with a grand red carpet entrance (it could have been the Oscars because most of the actors, writers, directors, etc were Oscar nominees and soon to be winners). During the show, I was just two seats down from Katie Holmes and Mark Wahlberg. I was able to mingle with countless celebrities that night, I couldn't believe it!

Sunday we headed to Rodeo Drive and Armani's offices on the third floor of his store. We documented the drama that goes on behind the scenes of the Oscars with designers, actresses, and the amazing dresses!

The photos we took on Saturday and Sunday are the rights of Gorgio Armani so I can't show them on my blog, but I did have a chance to break out my camera phone and snap a few pics on the red carpet... Gotta love technology and quick thinking. . . (It was a little tough with all the flashes and press though)

NIGEL PARRY, NEWSWEEK, AND OSCARS!

I work on a lot of commercial and editorial shoots, but most of them are closed sets and I cannot discuss them on my blog, big time bummer. But today I am able to give you a little sneak peak about what I was up to this last Saturday. I can give you a little info on who and where, but you are going to have to wait to see photos until it hits newsstands on Monday.
I assist photographer Nigel Parry when he travels out to the west coast from NYC shooting celebrities, musicians, politicians, etc. I don't get star struck that much anymore, but when I do I have to tell all my friends about it... Newsweek's annual Oscar Roundtable was held at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood on Saturday January 13th. The roundtable included actors and actresses that had outside of the box performances this past year including: Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, Forest Whitaker, Cate Blanchett, Penelope Cruz, and Helen Mirren. The day was all about them... there was a Q & A and a big photo shoot. We shot each of the actors by themselves as well as in one big group. I have never been in the presence of this many powerful celebrities at the same time. It was truly an amazing experience!
Nigel usually shoots with his trusty Hasselblad, but recently has shot a few assignments using digital. We were able to see the images right away and they we amazing! Nigel is so talented!!! I really love working with him. The article will be featured in Monday's Newsweek, Jan 29th issue, on newsstands Jan 22nd. Oscar nominations will be announced on Tuesday the 23rd.
Nigel also has a new book of black and white photographs out called Blunt. It is an amazing book filled with images of actors, politicians, artist, musicians, etc. The introduction is written by Tom Ford, a high powered fashion designer, the creative director for Gucci for over 10 years, and now runs his own company. Tom Ford's photograph is the first in Nigel's book (before it really begins) and it is one of my favorites. Tom Ford is truly an icon for me since I was a fashion buyer for over three years, he is a trend setter and force to be reckoned with. Another reason why I love the shot is because I was fortunate to work with Nigel on it over a year ago. Tom was a nice and genuine man. We shot at two locations, his office which is on the sunset strip and, his home in the hills. I love when I get to meet celebrities I admire and they end up being the nicest people.
There are a number of photographs in his book that I worked with him on. Nigel travels all over the world and sometimes can hit up more than 3 countries in one week! When Nigel makes his rounds in LA, I am always there (and will be early tomorrow morning for another fun shoot that should include a lot of laughs...hint hint, wink wink).
Here is the cover of Nigel Parry's new book Blunt. (courtesy of Amazon.com)

I have been hounding Nigel to bring me a copy of his book for a while. . . I finally hit the jackpot on Saturday.

Here is Nigel's shot of Tom Ford. . . Love it! (my attempts to photograph it for my blog. . . not so much) I was down on the ground by Nigel's feet passing him film and trying to get his dogs attention...That's the assistants life for ya...

Here is my backstage pass for the Newsweek shoot. . .I was "talent support" for the day, he he! It was a closed set with 18 security guards...wow!

Here are a few of the polaroids Nigel has taken of me when we are setting up for the talent . . .

THE MEGAN MULLALLY SHOW

Last week I was on set of the new Megan Mullally Show with Buster and photographer Mark Leibowitz. Buster is a conceptual design firm that specializes in animation for advertising and broadcasting. They design and animate live action production from both still and motion pictures. They do some really unique and cool stuff, definitely check them out when you get a chance!

Mark and I shot the behind the scene stills as well as some staged shots on the green screen for the opening credits for the show. Buster will piece the photos together as well as add some video to animate a cool "Megan World" for them to live in. Mark and I have worked with the Buster team before for the opening of the show Shalom in the Home on TLC and can't wait to work with them again!

It was a closed set. . . so I only get to show you pics of the outside stage . . .

We also got a chance to watch some of the show from backstage. Megan was so funny and entertaining . . . I predict that the Megan Mullally show will be a hit!
