AN ENGAGEMENT SESSION WITH A TON OF FLARE

I had a blast shooting an engagement session down at the historic district in San Juan Capistrano the other week. The light was gorgeous and the couple was so much fun. Check out their amazing photos!

A DAY AT THE GETTY

The other week I traveled up to Los Angeles to photograph one of my couples at The Getty Museum. The Getty is a fabulous place to visit and take amazing pictures, that is if you don't get kicked out. We lucked out and even has some attendants tell us about some amazing places to take photos. Check out their fun and playful images.

ENGAGEMENT SESSION AT CAMP

When I was chatting with Julie on the phone she mentioned she wanted to go somewhere urban and fun for their engagement session. Since they live in Costa Mesa I mentioned my recent shoot at The LAB and she was on the fence about it. She told me about CAMP, their sister location across the street, but I wasn't too sure about that. I told her to trust me, it would be perfect. Well, I got to The LAB a little early so I decided to hop across the street to the CAMP side....and to my amazement it was FANTASTIC! I don't know why I hadn't checked it out before. There were so many great colors, backgrounds, and textures it was so fun to play with! I immediately called Julie on the phone and told her she was right about CAMP and that they should come meet me there instead. We had such a great time shooting there it is now going on my preferred location list! I guess the motto "the client is always right" is spoken from great knowledge. Thanks guys for the tip, I can't wait for your upcoming wedding!

LAGUNA BEACH ENGAGEMENT SESSION

Here is another fabulous engagement session with a bride and groom who's wedding is just around the corner! They were a ton of fun to shoot and hangout with in Laguna Beach. We even grabbed some yummy sushi (one of my favorites) after!

We started taking photos around the village and shops and then headed down to the beach for a few more as the sun was going down. When we got to the sand I mentioned how fun it would be to jump on one of the lifeguard stations. Then they told me that's how they met! I paused and asked them why they never mentioned that before when they knew we were shooting at the beach. It's those little details I love to get from clients to make their pictures special and really represent them, their lifestyle and their relationship. I definitely knew I needed to incorporate it in their shoot, and then wondered what else aren't my clients mentioning to me when I ask them. So.... if you are one of my clients PLEASE fill me in on all the little details, I promise it will make your photo shoot soooo much more personal and reflect who you are.

It's just the most popular day this year for weddings and I can't wait to spend it at the beach! Surf's up!

AWESOME BEACH FRONT ENGAGEMENT SESSION

Here we go....engagement session number two for the week! Ashley & Ben were a ton of fun to work with. They were naturals in front of the camera and all about having a good time and capturing some great images. My main goal when I shoot engagement sessions is to have my couples get to know me and my shooting style so they can be star models on their wedding day. I show up like an old friend with a fancy camera to their wedding capturing their amazing memories with no worries from the Bride and Groom. Anyways, check out their great engagement images. They were all about the kissing shots, I literally had to tear them apart! They would haven been perfect for a Big Red gum commercial!

ENGAGEMENT SESSION AT THE WALT DISNEY CONCERT HALL

Wow, it's been non-stop shooting for the last four days! A wedding, two engagement sessions, and a commercial shoot. I am going to try to blog it all before I have to do it all over again this next weekend. Here is the first of the shoots...

This fabulous couple put a new twist on the engagement session for me because it ended up being a pre-wedding portrait shoot. They are having a traditional Vietnamese wedding and it is custom to have portraits of the Bride and Groom in their wedding attire showcased at the wedding. Since they were going to have three different elaborate outfit changes I knew I had to take them to the Walt Disney Concert Hall in downtown Los Angeles to take photographs. The concert hall has such a glamourous feel with its sleek lines and beautiful light that reflects off the buildings and sweeps around the curves I just knew it going to be the perfect backdrop for their amazing traditional ao dai outfits, wedding gown and tux.

SUNNY SUNDAY ENGAGEMENT SESSION

Before I headed off for my trip the other week I spent a sunny afternoon with another great couple. I was so excited for the shoot because I just purchased the Canon 50mm 1.2 lens the day before and it was the first time I got to use it with clients! I instantly feel in love and didn't use any other lens for the entire shoot! We had such a great time playing at Los Rios where we found a tractor to play on, a cat to play with, and a dark bar to test out the 1.2 in action afterwards. Enjoy their pictures and check back in July for their wedding!

SPRINGTIME ENGAGEMENT SESSION

I head out to the historic Los Rios Street in the heart of downtown San Juan Capistrano yesterday with one of my fabulous Spring couples for their engagement session. They both live in Colorado and are in the airline industry so they are always on the go. We weren't sure if we were going to be able to get everyone's schedule lined up before their wedding, but the stars ended up aligning last minute and not only did we get some amazing photos we had a blast! Check out their gorgeous photos and be sure to check back in May for their wedding at Strawberry Farms.

E-SESSION AT THE FUN ZONE

I had such a blast on Friday with one of my fall couples at the Balboa Fun Zone.  We had gorgeous weather and a fabulous playground to work with.  They were a lot of fun and were up for anything, even renting a little speed boat and jumping out on the bay for a few pictures.  We started off by walking around the Fun Zone finding colorful backgrounds and  amazing light, then hit the bay, and finally came back ashore for a few final playful photos.  Thanks guys, I had such a blast!  I can't wait for your wedding...

A FUN DAY IN LA

I had a great time on Monday hitting the streets of Abbot Kinney and the Santa Monica Pier with one of my fabulous and stylish couples! When I woke up and peeked out the window I got a little worried because the clouds were rolling in. We already had to reschedule a couple times due to rain and their wedding was creeping up on us. The man upstairs was looking out for me and we had a great day of shooting and no rain. It was a little windy and chilly by the time we hit the pier, but they were such troopers to get amazing photographs! Check out our fun day!

LOS ANGELES ENGAGEMENT SESSION

I'm a little behind on blogging everything I have been up to the last few weeks (before and after vacation). I will get to it as soon as I can, but it may just be a little out of order....

On Sunday I headed up to the Getty Museum in Los Angeles to take engagement photos of one of my September couples. We had a lot of fun riding the tram and strolling around the gardens until we got kicked out. What a bummer, just when the light was getting real nice. I guess we were too cool for their scene... We then decided on quick wardrobe and change and headed down to 3rd Street Promenade to finish up the shoot with more relaxed shots and no rules! They were such a fun couple and were up for anything, I can't wait for their wedding!

Here are some of my favorite shots of the day. . .

KATIE AND BEN

Yesterday I was lucky to shoot an engagement session with an old friend of mine who I haven't seen in over 10 years! Katie was excited to hear I was still taking photographs and I could do engagement photos for her and Ben. Originally they wanted to hit up the beach, but because it is close to the holidays and a zoo, I suggested they pick a place that would have less people and be special for them. They chose Irvine Park where they love to spend time together. I was thrilled that they were excited about going to the park and not the beach. I really like to take pictures that reflect the couple, and they felt at home at there. They love to have barbecues, feed the ducks, and have quiet time there with each other. It is right around the corner from where I grew up, but I haven't been there for years. . . I think I am going to start bringing more couples there. We had so much fun and were blessed with amazing light!

Right away we got some great shots. . .

So in love. . .

I just love the lighting in this one. . .

Always nice to have someone to lean on. . .

I think this is my favorite shot of the whole day. . .

"Did you here the one about the blonde and the turtle. . ."

They stopped to say hi to the passengers on the train. . .

I've always wanted to walk on train tracks. . .even if they are half size. . .

Feeding the ducks is one of their favorite things to do at the park. . .

Oh la la. . .

Who says we don't have seasons in So Cal. . .

As the sun sets. . .

And of course, the ring. . .

XTREME SEMINAR TAKE 2

There was a lot to celebrate on the second day of shooting in NYC! My models for the day, Yessi and Julio, were married exactly 1 month ago in Bermuda and it was Yessi's Birthday! Wow... how fun! We got out of Chelsea and traveled to Soho to snap some shots. Yessi and Julio couldn't keep their hands off each other. . . they were truly newlyweds! Becker, who joined us for the shoot, was the lucky guy to travel to Bermuda to photograph their wedding. Check out some of his stuff, beware it's hot and steamy! Click here for the wedding...and here for the day after.

Beware it heats up towards the end...

So innocent and sweet. . .

A little hand holding down the street. . .

What a beautiful couple. . .

They have so much fun together. . .

A quick stop to rest their feet. . .

It's starting to heat up. . .

Julio's hands were on probation after the shoot. . .

Starting to see fireworks. . .

Watch out NYC. . .

Hot. . .hot. . .hot!

ON FIRE!
