HOW I BECAME A WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER...

I am all caught up on blogging my summer weddings and I have been thinking to myself what an adventure I have had so far shooting this summer! First Seattle and the Anti-Workshop, then a great wedding in Hawaii and a day after session, followed by my friends wedding in Oregon, and then lastly another great wedding in Cabo! I can't believe how blessed and fortunate I am to be able to travel around the world, work amongst amazing photographers, and have way cool clients! I owe it all to two people: Keats Elliott, who is currently partnered with Becker creating the [b] school and the brains behind Jessica Claire's SHOOTSAC, and the uber talented Becker!

Keats introduced me to Becker about 2 years ago. At that time I had only shot one wedding for my close friend in Cabo and posted a slideshow of it on the web. I got a great response from friends and family, but it never crossed my mind to shoot weddings for a living (I was currently shooting commercially for magazines and advertisers). I didn't sleep at all the week before my friends wedding because I didn't know how to shoot it. I decided it was a good idea to find out more about weddings so I could have a better peace of mind if I was ever asked again. The only person I knew at the time that photographed weddings was my friend Keats. She said she knew someone that I should meet and introduced me to Becker. I was planning to only go to a few weddings with him so I could get more comfortable, I had no idea I would have so much fun with Becker, the clients and families, and that I would fall in love with shooting weddings. In the last few years I have shifted my focus to weddings, but I still do commercial work here and there.

I have to give a big THANK YOU to Keats and the amazing Becker who has taken me under his wing over the last few years, has given me an invaluable education, and is my biggest supporter. I don't think I would be shooting weddings without either of these two wonderful people. It's crazy to look back at your life and see what your "plans" were and where you end up. I always knew that I was going to be a photographer, but shooting weddings was a surprise! I am truly blessed and fortunate to have amazing friends in the industry that are there to support me every step I take, even if I am not sure myself. I can't express how much it means to me. Keats and Becker, you two rock!

Here is a great shot of Keats and I giving Becker some love in Dane Sanders's Foto Cabina at WPPI...
