Midnight
Circus is a collection of arts and entertainment tv segments to
celebrate the new year, produced and shared by a group of
international broadcasters.
From
world-renowned artists to up-and-coming new talent, from music and
dance, to folk art, acrobatics and new year ceremonies, the
performances
featured in our compilations represent a wide range of artistic styles
and traditions.
Segments
are broadcast around the world by members of the consortium; they are
usually featured in a New Year special, but may also be presented on a
different occasion.
Midnight
Circus is a unique undertaking in television in that it provides
broadcasters with an exciting program involving multiple locations and
performances; creates a
platform to showcase performing artists from very different traditions; and
offers
national audiences an entertaining program that fosters understanding
and respect for other cultures.
Maria Leao
is the executive producer. Project is coordinated by MLProductions in
collaboration with the European Broadcasting
Union.
Midnight Circus
is also endorsed by the Commonwealth Broadcasting Association and UNESCO's Global
Alliance for Cultural Diversity

Midnight
Circus began in 2002 with a group of broadcasters in Europe, Asia
and the Americas exchanging programming materials to enhance their New
Year Specials.
The
initiative was inspired by the success of "2000 Today" - the 24-hour
round-the-world LIVE broadcast produced by WGBH / BBC to welcome the
year 2000 - in which many of these TV stations had participated.
With
partners in all continents, and serving audiences across the globe,
Midnight Circus is the largest ongoing television co-production |
