What's this?
TEnews is a small application written by Marco Coïsson that puts a menu in the System Status Bar (the rightmost portion of the menu bar). This menu actually parses and displays the contents of the RSS feeds of Tevac Community, an Italian Mac-Users site founded and managed by Roberto Rota. Through this menu, you can read the titles of all entries posted on the site and related forums, and a summary of each article by holding the mouse pointer over a menu item. If you click on an article title, you jump to the corresponding page using your favourite web browser.
How does it work?

You can see the titles of the most recent articles appeared on Tevac, and the summary of the third article shown as a tool-tip. By clicking on an article title you jump to its page on Tevac's site, but you can also jump to Tevac's home page using the provided command.
In three submenus, the news reported in Tevac Photo, Tevac Forum and Tevac's Foto Forum are listed. You can choose what RSS feeds (among these four) to display directly in the menu or in submenus; if you are not interested in one or more feeds, simply disable them. All these operations can be done through the News window accessible through the News… menu item:

By default, TEnews updates the all news lists every 10 minutes, but you can change this behaviour with the Update Every submenu, that offers you a choice among 10, 30 and 60 minutes, or Never, that means you have to manually update the news lists using the Update News Now menu command.
When the news list is updated, TEnews notifies you the presence of unread news with a more visible icon on the menu bar. Additionally, a sound at your choice is played. Unread news are identified by a dot at their left.
You can jump to Tevac homepage through the provided menu command; hold down the "option" key, and you'll jump to Tevac Photo.
Since TEnews doesn't have a Dock icon, you can look at the about box or quit the application directly from the System Status Bar menu.

TEnews 1.3 is available in .zip format: download. This version is compatible with MacOS X 10.4 or above. Included in the download is version 1.1.5, that's compatible with MacOS X 10.3 but lacks support for searches on Tevac's site and only substribes to Tevac's homepage RSS feeds.
License
TEnews is freeware. Use it freely and distribute it freely, even on CDs or DVDs attached to magazines, as long as you don't modify it or don't make money from it.
