Michelle Fleming

You will easily recognize Michelle while youÕre at the gym.  Michelle is here everyday and coaches almost all the various programs at SchlegelÕs as well as dabble in some of the office duties.

Michelle started at SchlegelÕs in the Fall of 2002.  Since then, she has expanded to teaching Kindergym, Artistic, Teens and Birthday Party programs.  She has a wealth of gymnastics knowledge beginning with her early days as a gymnast in Oakville.

When Michelle is not here, you may find her cheering on her kids at their weekly hockey, soccer and baseball games.  She is mother to Nickole 10 and Andrew 8, as well as being happily married to her husband Tim.  Family life is busy between hockey rinks, soccer, baseball fields, coaching gymnastics and settling in her new home.

Whatever time is left, Michelle enjoys scrap booking and photography.  If you get a chance, you may want to ask Michelle about her photos!

Damian Goddard

If you hear a very enthusiastic male voice in the gym, you have definitely run into Damian!

After observing classes over a five-year span, Damian decided to join the coaching ranks here at SchlegelÕs in the Fall of 2002.  He coaches on Saturday mornings and helps with substituting.

If you havenÕt caught on already, Damian is AndreaÕs husband and through the years has been a consistent help around the gym when it comes to vacuuming, cleaning, minor repairs (brother-in-law Marc does the major work!) and computer processing.

You may recognize him as the friendly face meeting and greeting you on registration day!

Damian comes from a very athletic family with seven children!  His two younger sisters are gymnasts;  the elder, Rachel, is a former coach here who is entering her junior year on a gymnastics scholarship in Texas.  It was only natural that Damian coach here too!

When Damian is not in the gym being a ŌkidĶ, his Ōday jobĶ is sports broadcasting.  He was a regular on RogerÕs Sportsnet and now is the host of the pre and post games for Raptors TV.   Damian also provides his services for community events and was the MC at our Special Olympics competition.

When you see Damian, ask how high he can climb the rope!

Tracey McIntosh

After years of watching her children participate in class at SchlegelÕs, Tracey decided to venture into something new and become a coach for us!

TraceyÕs two daughters have attended our programs since the beginning and they have gone through almost all of the programs that we offer.  Her younger daughter started here in diapers!

As well as coaching Kindergym classes on Thursday mornings and hosting birthday parties on Saturdays, Tracey also struts her stuff in the adult class on Thursday nights!  Be sure to ask her about climbing the rope and ringing that bell!  Her cheery smile and positive attitude are certainly a welcome addition to our team.

Leanne McNeil

Leanne joined SchlegelÕs in December 1998 and she has continued to coach a variety of classes since - even through childcare work, full time school, and other business obligations! Leanne is one of our most versatile coaches, teaching classes ranging from kindergym to adult gym! She handles the transition from class to class without a worry. Leanne, as you can imagine, is quite a sought after coach given her technical certification and inherent talents. Leanne has a full time job in the airline industry, working for Air Canada Vacations.

This is a great job for Leanne with her highly advanced social skills and her love of travel.  Leanne is also happily engaged to Adam and they plan to get married in the Caribbean late next year!

Leanne is a significant member of our team and we are so pleased to have her assist with the development of new and young coaches. Oh yes, keep your eyes peeled - every now and then Leanne demonstrates that gymnastics is a sport for life! She may just WOW you with one of her tricks!

Rachel Pedros

Rachel Pedros joined us a couple of years ago after retiring from competitive gymnastics where she competed provincially for three years.  She wanted to stay within the sport but continue in a recreational environment.  Rachel began volunteering with us in the spring of 2001 and has been going strong ever since!  She helps with birthday parties and ŌShop Til You DropĶ in December, assists during our regular classes throughout the year, and she is with us for summer camps to which she has contributed amazing arts and craft ideas.

As well as being a wonderful coach and a competitive diver for one year, Rachel is also an accomplished Irish Dancer.  She has placed 2nd at the National Championships, and has represented Canada at the World Championships!

When you see Rachel, ask about her Irish Dancing experience and when she plans on competing again soon!  We will be sure to cheer her on!

Martha Porter

(Administrative assistant)

When you call our gym or visit us, you will be sure to meet a member of our team who lights up our centre with her cheery voice and sunny smile.  This wonderful person would be our office manager Martha!

MarthaÕs time at SchlegelÕs began as an enthusiastic parent watching her three year old participate in our programs.  Now her daughter is eight and attends the eight and nine year old classes on Thursday night!

Martha walked into our office doors one day and asked if she could volunteer some time.

We eagerly took Martha up on her offer and her first project was the history boards.  Martha continued to work as a volunteer using her talents to help with developing brochures, registrations, and organizing school group visits, just to name a few.  She was even given the honor of Gymnastics Ontario Volunteer of the Year in 2000.

Martha works diligently three days a week and we are fortunate to have her talents as a valuable employee.  Martha was also the first to sign up for the newly created adult class on Thursday nights and continues to improve with each session.  When you talk to Martha, as her how her cartwheel is going on the balance beam!

Natashiea Silva

Natashiea joined SchlegelÕs in September 1999 -- yes she was one of our first members! Natashiea started with us as a gymnast in the teen program.

She evolved effortlessly into the coaching realm employing her multitude of skills in leadership and babysitting.

Natashiea has coached every session since joining our team, including the summer camp programs.

For Natashiea, sport is a way of life. With her schedule permitting, Natashiea has enjoyed the likes of intramural volleyball, basketball and field hockey.  She has even played on some rep teams!

The backyard pool is the place to look for Natashiea if she isnÕt at the gym. Her older sister even teaches swim lessons out of the backyard pool. Clearly caring for children and developing skill sets is a priority for the Silva family.  Mrs. Silva has spent years in the Separate School Board system as an Administrative Assistant.

It does not require a keen eye to observe the incredible instinct that Natashiea possesses -- she has the ability to be everywhere and to make the most forlorn child smile with glee!

Natashiea has presented her talents many times at our coachesÕ meetings, she has presented at the NCCP coaching certification program courses and she even spoke at the Gymnastics Ontario Coaching Congress on the responsibility of being a CIT!

Of course she is now a fully qualified coach, a valued member of our team and we are very proud to boast of her talents! When you talk to Natashiea, ask her why it took her so long to come out of her shell!

Fiona Van Wissen

If you want to know anything about the outdoors, Fiona is the person to ask.  She came to SchlegelÕs with a vast background in gymnastics and outdoor education acquired in Ontario and the Maritimes.  Fiona holds a Master of Environmental Studies Degree.

We missed Fiona during the 2002 - 2003 season as she completed her teaching degree in Exeter, England.  The palm trees and the exotic weather in England couldnÕt keep Fiona away from Canada too long and we are extremely honored to have her working here again!

She joined our team in 1999 and brought with her a high level of coaching skill as well as a love for participating in gymnastics herself - even competitively!  She has made an invaluable contribution to the development of all our members, from two year olds in kindergym to the adults on Thursday nights.  Her administrative and organizational skills have also been appreciated in the office.
