Lauren's Oldest Friend Gets Married
Little Dougie (or Doug, to those who've known him
less than 25 years) and Treva tie the knot in Ithaca
Dougie Levine originally moved to Ithaca for
college, but it quickly became obvious that he was going to stay there well
beyond school. The city suited him so well that he is now in charge of
membership for the Ithaca Chamber of Commerce! It doesn't hurt that he met
Treva Van Scoy in Ithaca too. The coincidence that put my old friend in Marc's
home town meant that we were able to watch Doug & Treva's relationship grow
over the past few years -- always commenting on what a perfect couple they are,
living in the perfect town for
them.Dougie & Treva's wedding in
Ithaca this weekend was especially fun because it brought my parents and a big
chunk of our old neighborhood crowd upstate. Here I am with Mom & Dad
waiting for the ceremony to
start:
The
wedding itself was a blast -- it drew a huge crowd, probably over 250 people!
Everyone met up at the Lake Watch Inn on Lake Cayuga, where a brief but very
festive ceremony took place with an awesome bluegrass band playing Bob Dylan in
the
background:
In
true Dougie fashion, as he bopped down the aisle with his parents to the music,
the whole audience burst into applause! It wasn't till Treva walked down that
the crowd started breaking out the tissues. Vows were taken, Dylan was quoted,
and everybody cheered as they became Mr. & Mrs.
Levine:
The band played throughout the
cocktail hour. It was obvious that they were entertaining the crowd not as
hired help, but as friends of the bride and
groom.
The reception was beautiful, inside a
dance hall that had been converted from an old barn. Before it was the Lake
Watch, it apparently was called the Old North 40 -- an old music venue known for
its Saturday Night Fever light-up dance floor, where Marc's dad's band used to
play.
Even nicer than inside were the
grounds. Hurricane Charley spared us, and left a spectacular sunset in its
place:
While Marc & I spent the majority
of our time with my parents and old neighbors, it was fun to bump into a handful
of guys I went to high school with. I didn't realize Doug had stayed in touch
with so many old friends -- these guys caught me by surprise and gave me a taste
of what my 10 year high school reunion will be like if I make it there this
November:
Marc and I always rate weddings based
on how well they embody the personalities of the bride and groom. This one
truly screamed Dougie and Treva, and gave everybody a chance to partake in the
fun, laid back, Bob Dylan lifestyle that these two lead. We look forward to
many more years of heading up to Ithaca to see family, with the added bonus of
getting to spend time with Dougie and Treva as they build their life together up
there.
