Viva Las Vegas
Marc, Lauren, John & Jess live it up in Sin
City
As a thank you gift for planning John and
Jessica's wedding last fall, they organized an incredible weekend getaway for
the four of us in Las Vegas. One thing about Vegas is that you can have a great
time there on any budget, but there are definitely some incredible experiences
available for those who splurge -- which is exactly what John and Jess
did.Marc and I arrived before the
Prices on Friday morning so we could have some overlap with Pat Suh and Jeff
Daniel. Pat was there on business for a conference and Jeff was tagging along,
so we got to spend a few hours catching up before they went on their
way.
Once they left, we were able to check
into our awesome hotel room -- a suite in the newest "boutique hotel" tower in
the Venetian, called Venezia. Venezia was especially great because it has its
own entrance and desk that you can get to without wandering through the casino.
And also, the rooms looked like
this:
Soon
enough, it was time to meet up with John and
Jessica:
They had planned a perfect evening with us,
so together we headed to Caesar's Palace. We started at a bar with a fantastic
bottle of wine, and then made our way to the Elton John "Red Piano" concert. It
ROCKED!! Elton John was hysterical, his music was better than we even
remembered it, and the show was a blast. Here's a very bad camera-phone picture
(no real cameras allowed). I'm surprised Marc didn't get the shot of the 10
story tall blow up
boobs...
After
the concert, we had an unbelievable meal at Bradley Ogden, a new "farm fresh"
American cuisine place that was rated the top new restaurant in the U.S. last
year by the James Beard Foundation... and it was obvious why. Check out these
desserts!!
Then we headed back to the Venetian for a
little bit of gambling before we called it a night.
Saturday turned out to be pretty rainy
and cold, so we all slept in, had a delicious lunch at Venezia's French
restaurant, Bouchon, and then headed out to do some shopping. The Forum shops
at Caesar's were nuts -- I didn't even know that Versace made fine china!
Needless to say, it was mostly window shopping. On our way back, we saw
something even more beautiful than the haute couture, proving that even Vegas
can't outdo mother nature:
We
finished the day with an unforgettable meal at Picasso, a five diamond
restaurant that is home to a ton of original Picasso drawings and ceramics. We
found ourselves looking for excuses to make trips to the bathroom so we could
check out the artwork before heading back to our hotel. The perfect end to a
perfect weekend getaway.
