Lobsterfest 2005

More friends, more chaos, more fun

We did it. If you count munchkins, we managed to fit 53 people for a sit-down lobster dinner at our house. And it was a blast! Last year when we pulled it off (with about 36 people) for Marc's birthday, he had such a good time that he declared it an annual event. While it's one of the more complicated parties I've organized (think extremely limited space, renting/ordering special equipment, total ruin if it's bad weather, etc. -- yes, that's me at 8AM with a spreadsheet), it's also one of the most fun.

The best part is that our friends have realized the challenges and been awesome in helping out by bringing appetizers, sides, dessert & wine. And we haven't been shy when they've called to see if there's anything we need -- "actually, can you pick up 5 pounds of potatoes? What about 4 canisters of sterno? How 'bout just come early and peel all our onions!"

This year was especially fun because there were a bunch of kids running around, half scared and half fascinated by the lobsters.

It was also especially fun when the 80 quart steamer stove we rented broke. We figured out a fix, but it meant that people started eating dinner toward 9PM, which meant a few meltdowns among the smaller people and a few drunkards among the older ones. Luckily, lots of friends brought appetizers.

Finally, all of the lobsters & veggies were cooked! In the chaos, we'd completely forgotten about the butter but more volunteers worked fast...

It seemed like a miracle when finally, everyone was sitting down and feasting:

Shockingly, people even had room for dessert (delicious and supplied entirely by friends):

Once bellies were full, the real fun began:

Soon (well, 7 hours after the party began), it was time to call it a night. Thanks again to everyone who helped make Lobsterfest 2005 a huge success and a ton of fun!
