SIGN UP FOR CMEA ORCHESTRA FESTIVAL AT LYNBROOK
HIGH SCHOOL
Dear LIMB Parents,
The CMEA Orchestra festival will be held on Friday, May 3, and
Saturday, May 4, from 8 am to 5 pm. Lynbrook High School is hosting
this festival, and we require your help to host the 32 groups
that will be performing here. Our students will also be participating
in the festival, and will be performing for a panel of judges
on Friday, May 3, from 9:00 am to 9:25 am in the auditorium. Parents
are welcome to attend the performance.
Even though this is an Orchestra event, all parent
help is welcome. It takes dozens of volunteers to make this event
successful, and we want to present our beautiful new music wing
in the best possible light. So please take a look at the types
of jobs available, and contact Lisa Tam with the position youd
like, the day and the shift. You may also complete the attached
sign-up form & drop it in the LIMB box in the Instrumental
Music Room at school by Wednesday, April 10. There are also jobs
available that require advance preparation if you are not available
the weekend of the festival.
Please call me any time before 9:00 pm at my home
(255-5436), or send me an e-mail (lisamtam@hotmail.com).
Thank you for your participation in this wonderful event!

August 2001 Welcome
to LIMB and another great year planned for more fun, excitement and great
music. As a sophomore parent, I recall the past year as a time for discovery
and some voluntary participation. I now find myself actively participating
on the LIMB board with some very talented and dedicated volunteer officers.
I am beginning to learn what the needs and goals are for our music program,
as well as how in the past the activities were successfully accomplished.
The secret ingredient time after time was the active LIMB members that
provided their time, talent and resources! You, the parents of our talented
musicians, have that precious limited window of time in your childs
life to actively participate in their musical activities. The experience
is both rewarding and memorable. I encourage all parents/guardians to
actively get involved with the program. I am confident you will have a
great time.
As a booster there are many opportunities to be active in your childs
music program. For example, I enjoyed carrying percussion equipment on
and off the marching field in a timely fashion with several other parents
at a couple events last year. We had the best seats in the whole place
to watch our children perform. Our annual Crafts
Faire fundraiser is a great opportunity for active support and provides
a great time to shop unique handicrafts. Computer skills, sewing talent,
hand tool prop builders, concert concession servers, BBQ cooks, caring
chaperones, fund raiser/grant writer, uniform fitter/inspector, equipment
trailer loader/driver, food shopper, and whatever you feel most comfortable
doing and where you see the need. All are also great ways to get to know
other parents and the educators that make up LIMB and who also enrich
the music program..
I look forward to meeting each of you and actively participating together
this year. Its going to be a great time.
January 2002 I want
to take this time to wish all LIMB and their family a Happy New Years. 2001
was another fine year of music events and preparation for
an exciting 2002. Looking back I recall the opening of the music wing, the
purchase of a beautiful grand piano, the largest marching high school band
at most events, 6 bass drums, expanded co-ed color guard, wonderful group
orchestra concert with 2 other local high schools, successful fund raisers
and faires, and sold out holiday concerts. I am sure there were many other
events that could be added to the list. 2002 will continue to be full of
events and fund raisers as we focus on the China trip. Thank you all for
your continued support during these events and preparation. Providing a
program with many extra curricular activities takes many hands and minds!
Again, thank you to all that stepped forward to volunteer. We look to everyone
else who have not yet volunteered to make 2002 their time of resolution
to venture out and pitch in. It's a lot of fun.
Speaking of fun, this weekend 2 university marching bands will be rehearsing
in our neighborhood in preparation for the Silicon Valley
Football Bowl game on Monday. My alma mater, Michigan State University,
will be practicing at Fremont High in Sunnyvale on Saturday 9am - noon,
and Sunday late morning and early afternoon. Wil Mandac learned that the
Fresno State band will be practicing at Cupertino High School. I don't
have estimated times. If you want your child to see some very fine bands
practicing and put out some major league sound, come on out to the practices.
I can't wait. Hope it doesn't rain!
Here's wishing you and your family 2002 as a memorable one!
Cheers,
PDK.
