Big fires make their own "weather". A view of the cloud from my house (10km away). "Helitacs" flying through the smoke over my house. Many people lived much closer to the fire than I did. These grass trees are probably over 100 years old. Suburban parkland. A rather redundant sign. Spotter helicopter (directing the helitacs and bombers). One of 2 water bombers. One of 3 helitacs. Dropping fire-retardant on a house under threat. Heading back for another load of water. This was a hot, fast fire.
