Mark Geoghegan

I am Reader in Experimental Polymer Science at the University of Sheffield. My research interests centre around the physics of polymers at surfaces and interfaces, heterogeneous media (gels), semi-conducting polymers, and soft nanotechnology.

Congratulations to Jason (Dr Zhang Zhenyu) on his Ph.D. Jason is pictured here with me at his graduation and is the third of my doctoral students to graduate. (I am wearing the adademic dress for Members of the Institute of Physics.) Jason's thesis was entitled "Mechanical properties and pH-dependent conformation of a model polymer and biomolecule at the silica-water interface", and he is now doing postdoctoral work in the group of Professor Graham Leggett.

I am a co-author and co-editor of Nanoscale Science and Technology, a textbook introducing nanoscience and nanotechnology to final year undergraduates and graduate students. This book provides core material for much of our graduate-level training through nanofolio, the Universities of Leeds and Sheffield Nanotechnology Education Portfolio, of which I am director.
