my first day of college

--just had my full first day and we ended up ended the day with a posse of 9 wooohoooooo! and the place is completely full of macs!! YES!!--

How to look approachable and friendly without looking too desperate and lame in a desperately friend wanting approaching situation:

1. Go with the flow and have no expectations of any situation
2. Have a sense of humour, but don't laugh at every thing you hear
3. Eye contact and a smile is good, but no more then a glance if you're not having a conversation- or your reputation has already been labeled creepy.
4. If someone makes conversation with you, be interested in what they have to say, if you're not interested, then stop faking it.
5. If approaching someone who also knows nobody, start the conversation with a question, it's a good opening line, their answer can tell you what kind of person they are and if they are interested in talking to you.

Today my first day of college, going into a course where i knew there would be lots of light minded and open minded people like me which i was very excited but also extremely curious about. I worried i would do something wrong or maybe make a fool of myself on first impressions, but also i was curious to see who i would meet and what kind of people i would have spoke to by the end of the day (if any).
Well, turns out that everybody doing my course (about 10 people) were suppose to be coming on Wednesday, not Monday, the letter said different.. so hey at least the first muck-up of the year wasn't made by me.
So I walked into a room with 2 other people gradually it filled up to approx 10 people, then we were told to go get a coffee and come back at 10, so ok, we all go to the canteen poking fun at how unorganised even a college can be.. and then we get back and told to come back wednesday lol.. but in all this time i spoke to a total 6 different people, and i thought i would just be sitting on my own wishing to make a friend.. this has certainly taught me that going with the flow.. which i did.. is usually the right thing to do when you don't know what to expect in any situation..
I even ended up going into town with 2 other girls who also knew nobody, and today i walked away with one of their phone numbers, i hope i have made a very good friend, and i think i have, and i can't wait to see who else i meet- and just think this day we weren't even suppose to be there- in a teachers eyes this day could have been seen as wasting our time, but i think the complete opposite. :)
