Rogue Wave- a great team indeed Now this
band of 4, known as 'Rogue Wave', are a completely new sound to my playlist.
Rogue Wave are made up of; Zach Rogue (singer), Pat Spurgeon (drums or guitar,
vocals), Gram Lebran (guitar, synthesizer, vocals), and Evan Farrell (bass,
guitar, vocals). When i first listened to this i wasn't quite sure what to think of it, the singing is all in harmony and i straight away got reminded of The Beatles and other 60's music, their music involves a lot of different genres to create their own unique-alternative-modern-post-punk-indie style. I think each member of the band are vital for this as each of them submit a certain aspect to their music. Pat Spurgeon grew up on 60's music such as The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, Bob Dylan, etc, Gram Lebran uses his own synthesizer skills to add some groovy sounding key work, and with lead singer Zach Rogue who grew up appreciating a wide range of different music such as Nirvana, REM and Cypress Hill, you cant go wrong. It was abit lucky how this band came about really, Zach Rouge lost his job and was on a one way flight outta town.. then he made a record, then he got lucky.. basically- thats the story in a nutshell.. but shows it can be done! I think they all play a part to create a good atmosphere which creates their wonderful music, as personality certainly always shines through into the music you play and make.. with Evan Farrells humour and Gram Lebrans enthusiasm (used to be Rogue Waves biggest fan and now has the joy of being able to play what ever instrument he wants with them), and even frontman Zach Rouge who believes in this band so much he changed his last name for it.. it creates very happy and pleasent music- a great team indeed. ![]() Rogue Wave, to me, also remind me of other styles from different bands too, as well as the harmony style of singing they use which reminded me of The Beatles alot (and other 60s bands), i also think the guitar work is like 'Stereophonics', punchy drum beats like 'Eels', but also some of their songs reminds me of 'Dykehouse'.. but not because of the singing, its maybe the guitar work with the messy rugged 60s style drum beats that fit quite well with it (like Dykehouse- chainsmoking). Rogue Waves music can be quite simple, but it still works, i think its the singing that makes it sound groovy, and the catchy melodies too, infact i think everything in their music works together.. if you took one single detail of their sound away then it wouldn't be the same at all.. weather u take away just the harmony.. or the simple drum beats.. or 60s style guitar melodies... it would ruin it, u need each and every single thing, no matter how tiny it is, or how small the detail is, everything works together which is creating their unique sound and style. They have created their own style from all having different interests, Pat Spurgeon into Metal, rock and the 60s, and Gram Lebran who likes MC's and country singers, not forgetting Zach growing up on hip hop and grunge, it's a very good mix, and it really has created a unique sound.. it's like another version of post-punk, but it's not post-punk.. it's alternative.. and modern.. and i suppose it's like indie as well.. So there you have it, Rogue Wave.. genre?.. hmm.. well.. alternative indie post-punk modern rock.. They have a good sound, and if you were fond of the 60s music like the Beatles and if you can also handle indie or post punk then you will probably be drawn to Rogue Wave in an instant, i think this music might take some getting used to if you're not very open minded though.. try out these few songs.. Recommended Songs: Endless Shovel (reminds me of Dykehouse (Chainsmoking), i cant pin it down why though.. maybe it is the singing.. but its only the way they sing.. not the particular sound of his voice..), Interruptions (this is where the guitar work reminds me of the Stereophonics, and of course where the harmonies still make me think of The Beatles), Every Moment, 10:1 (this is more post-punky). ![]() If you liked those songs then check out their album 'out of the shadow' here You can find out more about Rogue Wave at their website http://www.roguewavemusic.com/ Quite a groovy, artistic and clever made website too!
