Silence
I can only muster silence given all that I have
seen and heard.

I encouraged clergy I know here in Kentucky to
make time to write their own account of Holy week. Holy Week According to
Michael D, a modern follower.

The Emerging Reign of God
Lisa and I keynoted the Georgia youth event
(Youth-a-Palooza) this past weekend. It was wonderful working with her again.
It was refreshing. The weekend theme, "Faithbook", gave us the chance to talk
the Disciples story and our individual Disciple story. We each had the
opportunity to give a homily during worship. The theme for Sunday morning was
the emerging kingdom of God. How do you connect to it, live in it, and connect
to others in the kingdom of God. These are my words from Sunday
morning.

Becoming Thankful
I was in Boston just before Thanksgiving
attending the Society of Biblical Literature conference with my companion.
Worship on Thanksgiving Sunday gave me a few things to think about becoming
thankful.

Why Reconciliation Must Be More Than Racial
On November 4th our nation broke the color
barrier that had a strangle hold on the highest civil office in our form of
government. In the same voting booth citizens in California voted for
President-Elect Obama, and against a court ruling that extended civil rights to
homosexual persons. I appears that the left coast (somewhat ironic in this
instance) does not believe that homosexual persons have suffered long enough to
be afforded the civil rights that not long ago kept interracial couples from
being married. And it is for this reason that Reconciliation as a mission
imperative for the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) must be something
other than solely a pragmatic, racial experience.

Refuge and Strength
I offered this prayer at the Kentucky Regional
Assembly on September 5. I found it in my jacket yesterday, Sunday, and thought
it would be good to offer today with a minor change or two.
