Mountain Top Morning
by Michael D
Here we are on the mountain top so let's set
up some chairs. I volunteer as an adult to the general youth council. These
past two days [Monday & Tuesday] have brought the GYC youth, and some of the
adult Disciples gathered to the mountain top. Isaiah 61 was preached on Monday
night and we where challenged. "The spirit of the Lord is upon us to. . ." The
youth who participated in the choir and dance workshops did a great job creating
the space for worship. The band sang and led the assembly in familiar Andra(1)
songs. The GYC youth spoke and walked with confidence and intention. Some GYC
youth report that adults thanked them for leading the first worship service of
the assembly.
Now on late Wednesday
the remnant of Disciples in the plenary hall are sprinting through non-binding
resolutions so we can feel like "business" was accomplished. Tonight the
Disciple church will install a new GMP and possibly open a new chapter in our
history. Will we? I have heard from some that Disciples "right" of center feel
pushed aside and that planning is already underway to gain control. Funny,
today with the GYC we debriefed this event and they were excited by knowing that
Disciples are a questioning people who affirm the worth of humanity. They are
excited about being Disciple and that balances my healthy cynicism.
