A Quest Ending
Some thoughts about the election.
First,
I
don't
think
voting
matters
in
national
elections.
I
think
corporations
determine
who
becomes
the President more than the millions that line
up to vote. We vote to keep us from taking up arms against one another. I was
reminded by a member of our staff today that I had the choice to vote or not,
and that I am lucky to have that choice. Yes, many have died defending freedom.
Freedom aside, because depending on your economic resources you are more or less
free in America. One of the things that motivated me to go and vote today is
that people have died not for freedom or my freedom, but for the idea of
America. That is what was so compelling about the endorsement of Colin Powell.
He spoke of the idea of America, and I think that is worth defending. Could
voting be considered defending the idea of America? Well, that is what I have
to think to get myself to go
vote.
And even though I voted today,
I am not confident that my vote will be counted given there is no paper trail
here in Fayette Co Kentucky proving that I cast a vote against Sen. McConnell.
For me, defending the idea of America equaled a vote against McConnell because
he is the bankroll of the entire Republican machine that continues to divide the
surfs to serve the Lords.
For Obama
and McCain, a quest is ending. No matter who wins (I have a bet that it is
McCain) a quest that is more or less noble is ending. If Obama wins the quest
to have someone other than a white male as President ends. If McCain wins the
quest to have a female executive ends though the white, conservative patriarchy
lives on in her words and actions. So, call that a push. America is on a quest
to make peace with the slavery of our past. We could take a big step if Obama
is elected President, but that quest has farther to travel
yet.
I don't know why you went to
vote today.
