Here in Kentucky my boss, Greg, also publishes a blog. He asked one of the Disciple pastors in Kentucky who has two children in the military if she would send us some of her thoughts.

Things to Know about a Military Family

We are a military family with two soldiers who have been deployed and are currently deployed. Our son, Derek, is Army Intelligence attached to a Special Forces Unit out of Ft. Carson, CO. Our daughter, Erin, is Army Intelligence with Headquarters Division out of Ft. Stewart, GA. Our youngest son, Seth, is not military, living and working in Bowling Green, KY. We work to be together as often as possible. Not one of us stands alone. We stand together.

1) You walk on the prayers of others whom you know are supporting you.

2)  You are in constant contact with a cell phone, a landline phone, a computer and/or television. You may get a phone call from your soldier. You may hear news or you may receive other information. So a trip that removes you from immediate communication is something you do not want to do.

3)  You debate as to whether or not to tell your deployed soldier that a family member is sick and/or dying.

4)  Every time you see your soldier, it may be the last time.

5)  When a deployment is over, you bring your soldier home to remind him/her of the family, their roots and that which is familiar.
