Honu Half Ironman Camp - Day 4

Easy day - 90 minute run around Waimea and a 6000 yard swim at Kona pool.

We slept in today. Whatever that means here. The birds go bizerk around here at 5 AM, so by 6, everyone is usually up.

The house we are staying at is really nice! It's immaculately maintained.

Even has a BBQ and a Jaccuzzi. The upstairs and downstairs both have full kitchens and would be great for a family reunion or a wedding party.

Mornings aren't real fast around here, since we get up so early because of the birds, we sit around munching and drinking coffee, until breakfast is served. The photos below are of Eddy Fardell, Brynje Ray, and JD Moorehead. JD has sat in this corner of the bar every morning since we've been here. Laptop, dial-up internet and a cup of coffee. If only he'd wear a shirt. :-)

After breakfast we drove the hour plus drive to Waimea. This is the cattle ranch town on the north side of the island. We stopped here at the Starbucks last year on the way from Hilo to Kona. The place Mitch had planned for us to run had been closed to the public with a gate, big locks, and lots and lots of No Trespassing signs. It would have taken us out a long trail to a large waterfall, but the trail goes through private property and is now closed.

So, we had to find another place to run. It was a very hilly run, but proved to be really nice. It was a back road with a lot of canopy cover from the trees. Here were are just starting out.

Afterwords we eat lunch at Tex Drive in. I had Chicken Moco Loco. It's a rice, egg, chicken and gravy dish. It wasn't a "good loco" as Mitch says, but it was still pretty yummy.

Then we drove back to the condo and relaxed. Some took naps. Greg, Eddy, Hack and I jumped into the jaccuzzi and watched geckos.

At 3:00 PM we left for the Kona pool and swam until the pool closed at 5:30 PM. It was a 6000 yard swim. I made it for about an hour and a half before cramping in my arches and my calves.

Then we went to Jamba Juice! Oh, yeah.

Gant getting a massage out on the back lawn. It would have been nice if the mosquitos didn't pester them.

Eddy, myself, Mitch and Michelle chilly out on the back patio. Brinja doing the same.

Dinner tonight was Kona Teriyaki BBQ chicken, Red Lantern style.
