Time to Blog....
This year theres gonna be some changes around
here! Actually, 2007 was a great year, we learned tons of stuff about trying to
run a photography business. The year started off rather slow but the 2nd half of
the year saw us going all over the place to shoot weddings, portraits, personal
stuff, etc.etc. Personally, I think I could've had more business but since I
still have a regular 9 to 5, I think deep down inside, I was happy that it didnt
get super busy, it was just right. The amount of work allowed me to still have
enough time to improve workflow, post-processing techniques, lighting, business
negotiations, and all kinds of other details that take up so much time. There
were a few weekends where I think Dina would've rather had us doing something
else, but she was a trooper and helped me in so many ways, thank you
wifey!
Well, in 2008, I want to work on quite a few
things. I think my shooting is way better than a year ago and I think Dina has
come a long way from being an "assistant" to almost an "on your own, second
shooter". We will continue working on that. But here's a little list of what I
want to accomplish in
2008.
-BRANDING- I want to develop a logo, color scheme, and just an awesome brand that will be instantly recognizable to clients and fellow photographers.
-SHARE KNOWLEDGE- I want to post videos that will help others with tips on lighting, photoshop techniques, cool tricks, and behind-the-scenes stuff. Basically, they will explain what was going on in my head when I took a certain photo or did a certain photoshop technique.
-NEW BLOG- I know I want the content of this new blog to be basically for newbie wedding photographers like myself, trying to break into the business, but what I dont know is if I'll buy a fancy "custom blog" or if I"ll just use a free blogging software. It will be cool though! Lots of info, basically a diary of my adventures into this field.
-BLOGGING- I will try to post more often! I know I follow blogs that post daily, I thing most people do...
-BETTER PRESENTATION- I've been working more on my customer presentation, media, and similar things. Will go hand-in-hand with "branding" and "identity" improvements.
-NEW GEAR?- I'm a Nikon user, and was totally convinced to jump to Canon (because of their awesome pro lense choices) until the other day, when Nikon introduces the new D3 and D300. Now I'm back to being undecided. I'll make a decision soon. I guess it depends on how busy this year is.
-SENIOR PHOTOS- The high school senior market in this area is just sitting here, in front of us, begging for some cool, fresh, unique senior photos......I want to aggressively pursue some of this potential work. Senior photography is big business in some areas. I've searched and searched and I cant seem to find local photogs shooting anything but cheesy senior photos....
-NETWORK- I need to network a little more. It's tough, there's hardly any time but we'll try to network a little more this year.
-PET PHOTOGRAPHY- Dont laugh! I'm sure that someone who pays $2,000 and up for a fancy dog wouldnt mind paying for awesome, fancy photos! Just walking around Victoria Gardens, there are tons of people with their dogs out and about......
-BETTER COMMUNICATION- I've already started working on this and it goes together with "better presentation". Basically, I'm talking about explaining all details to clients in a thorough way so that there are no "misunderstandings" later. Not that it happens, but I think I need a reference page on either my website or blog where they can see all the info any time they want. Sometimes, even with a detailed contract, we can still get confused.....
