Optional Wide Ledger

Startup Options under the SmartLedger Menu lets switch to a wide ledger with additional columns for taxes and fees. If you need to keep track of sales tax or PayPal™ fees, the optional wide ledger is for you.

Startup Options to choose wide ledger

Here's what you see on the main screen with SmartLedger in wide-ledger mode.

Clicking the column headings over the tax and fee fields allows you to change those column headings to suit your purposes. One column can display local sales tax, the other state or provincial sales tax. Alternatively, PayPal merchants can use one column for tax and the other for fee.

You can modify the behavior of the on-screen "apply tax" buttons (orange pointers) and the "Net" calculation (or total). A setup screen appears when you click the tax and fee column headings.

When you click the Reports button at the top of the entry screen, amounts in the tax and fee columns are summarized along with the base amounts by category (below). Grand totals appear on the last page of the report.

When you choose the option to show subtotals only, the report omits the individual entries (below).
