If you are a registered user of PriceUpdater (you paid for the program
and entered your password into it), follow these steps to update your copy
of the program to the latest version.
- Start your existing copy of the program, and under the PriceUpdater Menu (boldface heading, top of the screen in PriceUpdater) choose Backup. Make a backup copy of your current data (follow the on-screen prompts) and name the file "MyBackup."
If you have created additional price lists that you want to keep, also
back them up as above, giving each backup file a name that signifies to you
what it contains. - Quit/Exit your earlier version of PriceUpdater.
- Drag to the desktop the following items from your existing installation, out of the PriceUpdater Program Files folder:
License.USR
MyBackup (the file you created in step 1)
— plus any other backups you made of personalized pricing files.
For now, keep these files safely apart from your existing installation
of the program. We want to spare them, while getting rid of all else from
the former installation. (In earlier versions of PriceUpdater, the installation
folder was named "PriceUpdater Folder" or "PriceUpdater FMp.")
- Drag your former installation to the trash or recycle
bin. Empty the trash/recycle bin after confirming that your License.USR and
backup files have remained safely parked on the desktop.
- Install your new version of PriceUpdater. The installer creates a new folder called PriceUpdater Corral. (How do I install PriceUpdater? tells you how to install the program after you have downloaded it).
- Open the new folder and drag the files you parked on the desktop (License.USR, MyBackup.USR) into the PriceUpdater Program Files folder, which is nested inside the new PriceUpdater Corral folder. Click OK to allow your computer to replace existing files with those you are dragging.
- Start your new copy of PriceUpdater by double-clicking PriceUpdater.EXE, in the PriceUpdater Program Files folder. (In the Mac version, the name of the file is simply "PriceUpdater.")
- You will be prompted to enter your password and name. Even
though you already registered your earlier copy of the program, PriceUpdater
will ask you again at this time for your password.
- Type in your original password exactly as provided by MacMerlin
Computer Services, and supply your name or the name of your store. Click
Continue.
- When PriceUpdater's main screen appears, go again under the PriceUpdater Menu as in step 1, but this time choose Restore.
Use the mouse to point the program to the backup file you created ("MyBackup,"
or whatever name you gave your backup file), click Open, and follow
the prompts to restore your former data. If at this point the program asks,
"Do you wish to keep backup records only, or current records and backups
both?", you should respond Backups.
This completes your transition from an earlier version of the program to a newer one.
For any additional files you backed up, use the Create New List
command in your new edition of PriceUpdater to create a receiving file for
each of your backups. While your receiving file is open, use the Restore command (under PriceUpdater Menu) to bring former data into the new edition's framework.
