AquaCDBurn
is no longer being developed. Instead, I have started a
fresh application, based partly on some example code from Apple, which
I have combined with rewritten AquaCDBurn code. The new application is
AquaCDBurn Deluxe. There is absolutely no documentation for it
presently. It has only been tested on Panther, where it has been used
regularly for the last few months. Two pre-alpha build are available
below:
For
those who
want to continue with AquaCDBurn, the latest usable edition is here:
Can you save data CD
configurations
like you audio CD configurations?
No,
absolutely not. The save feature only works with audio CDs, and applies
only to audio tracks placed in audio track window.
Why
is
AquaCDBurn Deluxe considered pre-alpha?
Because it may have any number of bugs (see below). Also, no
documentation. And finally,
it's only been tested on a G5 iMac running panther.
Is AquaCDBurn Deluxe
safe to use?
Depends what you mean by safe. It probably won't destroy your computer
or hose your OS, but it could easily coast your cdrs. In any case, you
use it at your own risk. Not recommended for professional use.
What kind bugs can I expect to afflict AquaCDBurn Deluxe?
The
main one I have run into is a sudden crash which happens when more than
one window is open and a disc is removed from the drive. I tried to fix
this problem, or at least alleviate it, in version 0.2.
AquaCDBurn Deluxe
doesn't work with my
superdrive/cdrw?
The extraction and data burning functionality depend on the cdrtools,
which reportedly don't work with superdrives. The preference defaults
assume a
combo drive. To get it to work with cdrw drive, enter the following in
the terminal:
defaults
write
com.gsn.aquaCDBurnDeluxe devname "dev=IOCompactDiscServices"
AquaCDBurn
Deluxe may also fail to work because of an inability to extract the
correct ioregistry string. This can be fixed by entering it as follows:
defaults
write
com.gsn.aquaCDBurnDeluxe IORegName [ioregname (whatever it is)]
How do I find the
IORegistry name?
Unfortunately,
this ain't easy. AquaCDBurn 0.6.5, however, will show you what
it
is. Download the application above, put a disc in your drive, and fire
AquaCDBurn up. Check under the "Disc Info" tab. Then copy the entire
string into the terminal in place of the bracketed string. Make sure
you don't get any of it wrong, because if you do, it sure as hell won't
work.
