| Quark - some documents don't print in Quark 6.1 | | Date Created: 03 Oct, 2004, 08:56 PM |
After updating to QuarkXPress 6.1, many people are finding that some documents are not printing. Although this is not an uncommon problem for a Quark document, there is a pattern that emerged. The error messages would seem to indicate the problem(s) to be font related.
I was first made aware of this problem when working with Brett Conlon the Technical Coordinator at Sony Music Entertainment (Australia). Brett performed exhaustive testing and found that the root of the problem was permission based. (Thank you for all the hard work, Brett.)
Not all people are experiencing the problem, but those that are are having the exact same kinds of problems. After trying many different variations of font management software and user settings, we determined that the issue was permission based.
These problems can usually be resolved by changing the permissions on the fonts being "called on" by the Quark documents... |
I have found that using BatChmod is the easiest way to change the permissions on a group of fonts. Here is the process for using BatChmod to change font permissions:
1. You need to download BatChmod (written by Renaud Boisjoly) at http://macchampion.com/arbysoft/batchmod133.hqx
2. Launch BatChmod, and drag the folder containing the fonts you want to modify into the input field to the right of the "File" button. |

|
3. Change permissions to (as shown in the diagram above)...
......... Owner: root (RWX)
......... Group: Admin (RWX)
......... Everyone (RX)
......... And check "Apply ownership and privileges"
......... Then Click the "Apply" button
4. If it works and you want to show your appreciation, please consider making a donation to the the software's author. (It's the least you can do for the help that he's given you.)
More information about BatChmod is available in the Resources section of this site. |
