Utility - Deep Six

One of the most common font problems that you can have is corrupt font caches. Many people don't know if they are having this problem or not. If your text looks garbled or if you are having applications suddenly quit, you could be having font cache problems.

DeepSix is a simple utility that removes some of the font-related files that can cause some design-based applications to unexpectedly quit, especially Flash, Microsoft Office and Adobe products. First, the software removes the infamous "AdobeFnt" files that seem to replicate across the system. Secondly, it removes the font cache files from the various libraries across the system. All of these files (that are deleted) are automatically rebuilt new when they are needed. Third, it will now remove Microsoft Office problematic files. Normally these can all be removed by hand, but that can be a tremendous time-waster to have to do various times a day in a busy environment. DeepSix will remove these files for you automatically each and every time. A simple fix that even Adobe suggests in their troubleshooting forums!

For a step by step instruction on using Deep Six, please refer to my "How To Use - Deep Six" article also located in the Resources section of Font Geek.

Comparison: This utility is very much like Font Finagler. I like Deep Six because it allows the user to set the utility to launch on start-up as well as to deal with some Microsoft font preference files that can also be problematic. But I prefer Font Finagler because it allows for a non-administrative user to be given control to clear font caches (once) without being given administrative privileges to the entire computer (for subsequent uses of Font Finagler)..

Additional Notes:

There is a very good "Read Me First" document included with the software once it's downloaded. This document is concise and very useful. I strongly recommend that you read it prior to using the software.
