Mamie and her twin brother Joe were born May 2, 1897, in St. Paul and grew up in Roscoe, Minnesota, where the family moved in 1899. She lived at home and also helped her sister Rose in her duties as housekeeper at the parish house. When she was 18, she contracted a severe cold that progressed into pneumonia, and she died in Roscoe on February 2, 1916.
