A Colder War

My friend Rob Heinsoo just loaned me Toast, a collection of short stories by Charles Stross. Not too long ago I happened across two of Stross' novels, Singularity Sky and Iron Sunrise, which I thought were excellent works of science fiction. When I mentioned this to Rob, he told me I'd really love the short story 'A Colder War' that was published in Toast (which is why he loaned it to me).

Having just finished the short story, I have to agree.

The intro begins:

H. P. Lovecraft's classc Novella, "At the Mountains of Madness" [...]

From there, things get weird.

Guess what, I just found a copy of 'A Colder War' published nearly in its entirety online, sans the intro I just referenced. And it is apparently up with Stross' knowledge and blessing, cool.

Oh yeah, and in case any of you reading this are fans of the githyanki and githzerai, two races first presented in the original D&D Fiend Folio, it was Charles Stross who created them. Yeah, I was surprised to learn that, too.
