Dragon's Return
My short story "Not All That Tempts" appears in a
short story compilation called the Dragon's Return that has just been PDF-published
by Malhavoc Press, pending physical 'book publication' in a few months. My
editor, Sue Cook, was a fabulous help in pulling the story together, and making
sure it arrived where it actually wanted to go.
Here is a snippet of my story (just
one of many, including a contribution from such luminaries as Kristine Kathryn Rusch!) that appears in The Dragon's
Return:NOT ALL
THAT TEMPTSBruce R.
CordellA spark of brutal memory
bridged the gap between the figurine and the giant’s finger, anticipating
his approaching grasp. Na-Devaon flinched with something like pain. His
oversized hand inadvertently knocked the figure off the display shelf, then his
eight-foot frame crumpled, and he followed the fallen figure down to the hard
floor. . . .Grief blasted
past his barriers, sending Na-Devaon’s mind tumbling past the Four
Principles—fire, air, earth, and water—and on into the ultimate
ether: the akashic sea, in which all thoughts, words, and actions are recorded
for all time. He tumbled past habitual moorings, accelerating into regions
foreign to any that now lived. Never had he willingly ventured so far back into
the akashic memory, so far beyond the sight of times and places with which he
was at least passing
familiar.
