Republican Abuse of Power in All Its Glory

I've been hard on Democrats lately (1, 2, 3), only because I would like to forge them into a credible alternative to the lunatic fringe that currently holds the reigns of power in the executive, legislative, judicial, and mass media in the USA.

The president has thumbed his nose at over 50% of the nation (yes, some Republicans were brave enough to stand up for what's right) by using a recess appointment to make John Bolton the US Ambassador to the UN. Not because Bolton is the best man for the job (since he's the antithesis of diplomatic), not because there was an outcry for Bolton to be put into position (quite the opposite), but as far as I can see, because Bush could do it, damn all the rest of it.

That's a leader for you. A third world, dictator-wannabe leader, but a leader.
