Good Places to Write

Two days into my vacation and I've found two good places to write.

On Monday I sat at the Met in downtown Renton, a coffee and wine bar. The Met is great (even though I stuck with coffee). In addition to its great decor, the Met provides free wireless internet access! Unfortunately, its great big comfortable leather chairs in front of the fireplace (turned off in the summer) are too far from the outlets--I end up sitting on the periphery of the room at a metal table so I can plug in my Apple powerbook.

Today (Tuesday) I went up the hill to the Starbucks closest to my house. This is the Starbucks where I've lately seen a lot of James Wyatt as he worked on a novel. Was James on to something? Well, this particular Starbucks has several big purple chairs, nearly as comfortable as the chairs at the Met, AND I could plug into an outlet while sitting in them. But--you have to pay for wireless internet. I could live with that--but someone was in the bathroom for the entire last hour I spent there. Two or three hours after finishing a grande americano, a rest room is welcome.

So... Tomorrow. Where shall I go? I remember reading in Wolfgang Baur's blog about this really great place to write, Suzzallo Hall at the University of Washington. But, when I talked to Wolfgang this past Saturday during a Cthulhu game he runs intermittently, he (along with John Rateliff) indicated that I might not be able to have a coffee with me at the table in Suzzallo where I'd be writing (though I admit I might have misunderstood him and John).

All things being equal, what I need the most is the constant caffeine infusion.
