Financial Assistance for Needy Youth Available
Manatee Children's Services is once again providing an opportunity for units to apply for financial assistance in support of families wishing to allow their sons to be involved in the scouting program, but who cannot afford the uniform, registration and books. The scholarships may be applied to scouting age youth ages 6-17 who meet certain financial guidelines.
A table listing the materials that each approved youth will receive is shown below.

Funding is limited so the earlier you send in a completed application the better the chances of being approved. As a rule of thumb, if the youth meets the free or reduced lunch criteria in the public school system, he most likely meets the criteria for assistance from this program.

DO YOU NEED ANSWERS?
Are you a leader or a Scouting parent that has a problem in your unit that no one seems to be able to resolve or a question you need answered? Are you frustrated about Scouting and looking for someone to talk to? Perhaps you just want some info on the policies of the Boy Scouts. There is someone you can turn to, your Unit or District Commissioner.
One of the jobs of a Commissioner is to be friend to the unit and to represent the District and Council to the unit. They are also there to help guide units in resolving their own issues and to help spot a problem before it can explode into a major issue which may be detrimental to the unit and most importantly the youth we serve.
Commissioners have the experience to help guide a new or experienced unit through the rough times that they may experienced. They won’t solve your problems for you, that is not their job. They are counselors and teachers. After all, practical experience is always the best teacher.
If you don’t know who your Unit Commissioner is the person to contact is the District Commissioner. In your district that is Rick Langford. You can also find your District Commissioner at the monthly Roundtable.
EASY REGISTRATION & PAYMENT
Please keep in mind that you can now sign up and pay for activities, training and other events on the Council’s website. You can also make a new donation or payment on your current FOS pledge using a credit card or e-check by clicking the Ways to Support Scouting/Friends of Scouting link on the menu bar. Be sure to enter your unit number!
