Ten Reasons Mac Users Sleep Better
at Night Than PC Users

Do you really think it matters to a virus
which brand of computer you own or what your
PC's specs are?? Dell, HP, Compaq, IBM,
Sony Vaio, Gateway, Acer, Toshiba, eMachines,
a hi-revving Alienware gamer, or a beige box
homemade by your friendly neighborhood computer
geek-- viruses, worms, spyware, and computer hijackers
love 'em all as long as you're running Microsoft
Windows 95/98/Me/2000/XP, home or pro, and
especially if you use Internet Explorer to surf
the Web.

Virus writers love high-speed, always-on Internet
connections, but they'll settle for dial-up, too..
They're counting on you to neglect your software
updates and to get tired of running multiple anti-virus
and anti-spyware programs. They hope you don't know
what a firewall is or how to use it. They could care
less who your Internet service provider (ISP) is.

Oh yeah... just one more thing: If you go to jail
for the illegal activities they conduct using your
zombie Windows PC, they consider that to be
your problem.

Most of all, computer hijackers pray you never buy a
Macintosh computer running Mac OS X 10.3 Panther
or the upcoming OS X 10.4 Tiger. The reason is not as
simplistic as you may surmise.

You think these bad guys haven't written viruses for
Mac OS X just because there are fewer Macs than PCs
for the time being? Think again! Malicious code scans
the entire Internet for any machine with easily exploitable
vulnerabilities
. An IP (Internet) address is still an IP
address whether a Mac or PC resides there. In truth,
Macintosh computers on the Internet are attacked
just as often as their PC brethren -- but those attacks
are not successful.

Why? Virus writers are not as creative as you think.
Check out the top 10 virus list above. Notice the same
names over and over again-- different strains of the same
viruses ?? Even though Unix has been around since 1969,
Unix viruses have to be written from scratch, because there
is no ninety thousand volume "library" of prior viruses to build
upon. Besides which, the Unix "language" is a lot more complex
than Windows. If it were just as easy for script kiddies and
pros to write malware for Unix/Mac OS X as it is for
Windows, don't you think it would have already
happened by now?

10 more reasons to get a Mac

Even the FBI has a hard time cracking into Mac OS X !!

So, besides being virus/worm/spyware- free,

what's the difference ??

Is there anything that could possibly be more important?
Hmmm...I guess that depends.

So here's an idea or two anyway:

What's a wiki?
Wikiwiki means 'fast' in the Hawaiian language.
For example, Wikipedia.org, is an online free-content
encyclopedia that anyone can edit... including YOU!
Inspired by Wikipedia, Wikitosh is a brand new Mac
website, which likewise can be written and edited by
just about anyone familiar with Macintosh computers.
It will be very interesting to see how fast and in what
direction this website will develop.

Important Disclaimer:

No I do not work for Apple Computer, inc., although I wish I owned some of its stock. And, no, Steve Jobs is not my personal savior.  I'm definitely a non-expert, but I can point and click on a Windows PC as well as I can on Apple's Unix-based Mac OS X.

With so many CTDs (computer transmitted diseases), lurking around the Internet, more and more PCs are dying or becoming sterile, Viruses released on Monday are written for holes reported the previous Friday. Worms now come looking for your PC instead of waiting for you to read your email. With 90% of PCs infected with spyware... well... um... Microsoft Windows just does not belong in the family room.

Therefore, for my home,

I bought a Mac.

On  purpose.

From the get-go.

After having used Windows.

For Many Years.

At Work.

It's all about a quality user experience.

Er...On second thought,

It's all about a usable user experience

if your PC just died

from the latest virus du jour...

You don't like Macs, I hear you say?  Too expensive? Too slow? Not enough software? Can't do yada yada yada...? And the last Mac you used was in high school, right? Well, to paraphrase a certain automobile TV commercial:

If you haven't driven a Mac lately,

look again!

As self-proclaimed PC geek Scott Cabana writes in OS News, ""You can imagine how strange I felt when I started to look at the Mac differently. It's like seeing a girl you made fun of in school and now she is hot 10 years later."

The iPod generation is starting to "get it", and this is one situation in which older does not necessarily mean wiser.

Macs are cheaper, faster, more secure, and more compatible with PCs than they've ever been before, so I'll quote another ad:

"ZOOM, ZOOM, ZOOM!!"

    Just ask Virginia Tech.
