New Technology

If you haven't clicked over to the 'Talk' page, please try it out. My brother-in-law Scott hipped me to some new technology that's pretty cool. In the box, you can see if I'm online, and, if I am, chat with me in real time without having to deal with any chat software. It's all integrated right into the website.

The 'Calendar' page has also been updated. What you see now is a Google calendar, which offers some cool features. Now when you click on an event, a new page opens with detailed information, including applicable links and even maps to the gig.

There are more updates coming, as I'm not completely happy with not being able to see the comments in the 'Tartellog' right on the page.

More soon.

October update

Summary only available when permalinks are enabled.
Hi,

My brother-in-law Scott gave me this website last year and told me to get to work. I have been woefully lame in doing anything until now. There have been a few experiments in the look and content, but I didn't tell anyone aside from a couple of close friends this existed. Well, of course search engines find everything. So a former student and a couple of former colleagues found it.

The former student also told me to get to work (thanks Ben). And hearing from two former colleagues, one I hadn't spoken with since 1992, make me think it just might be a good idea.

The school year is off to a fast start. First,"All Shook Up" came into Indianapolis. The show uses Elvis Presley music, so it's a lot of fun to play. But the plot is sort of a half "Footloose" and half "Just One of the Guys". The "Footloose" part is the Elvis character, unbelievably named Chad rolls into an uptight town and loosens everyone up with song and dance. The "Just One of the Guys" part is the girl mechanic, who immediately falls for Chad, masquerades as a boy named 'Ed' to get closer to him. Then Chad and the girl Chad thinks he likes, played by Susan Anton, both fall for 'Ed', and hilarity ensues.

Two weeks later, I played the Cincinnati Pops opening weekend. A great orchestra in a really nice hall with great charts. I was featured on 4 pieces: Jeff Tyzik's arrangement of "In the Mood", "Sweet Georgia Brown", "Sing, Sing, Sing" and the same arrangement Doc Severinsen recorded with them of "You Made Me Love You". It was a great time. The trumpet section: Doug, Steve, Chris, and Brian were fabulous to work with, and made my job very easy.

This month has some fun stuff coming. The BWJO is doing 'A Tribute to Oliver Nelson' on October 15 at 2:00 and 7:00 at the Indiana History Center. Then I'm hitting the road with IU's Marching Hundred, playing in the 'Horseshoe' at Ohio State on October 21, then halftime at the Colts/Redskins game the next day.

I'll let you know how it goes,

Joey
